I am frustrated too.... but not with the quality of the photo. The lack of public knowledge on this issue, and sheer non-challant attitude about it frustates me.

I do not think that the Iranian people that are responsible for the military and the advocates of jihad completely understand the power of the rest of the world. It is not even just a US predicament, as most would like to think. If Iran tried to strike another country, the world, and mainly the US, would stand up and squash them. Just because the United States is not successful at occupying Iraq, does not mean that the US could not fight a war, need be. The United States spends more on its military than almost all other countries combined. One US aircraft carrier and most assuredly one US naval fleet, has more missiles than in all of Iran, and probably one or two types of missiles, that, not that the United States would unnecessarily use them, could take out all of Iran. So I think the Iranian people need to take a look at their neighboring country from another light. The United States, more likely than not, would not be able to occupy Iran. Also, more likely than not, the United States would undoubtedly crush an Iranian uprising. Iran seems to be up and coming in the world. But, with great power, comes great responsibility. And if the Iranians would like to keep what decency remains, and a bright future in store, they should snap out of this mindless state they are in, and do something that ensures their place in this world instead of something that insures their lack of one.

Notice the smoke cloud on the ground under the missle furthest to the right and then check the smoke cloud under the second missle. They match perfectly.

Irregardless of whether 1 didn't fire or not,the fact remains that they now have the capability to hit US forces and Israel.Ill bet if Obama was president he would want to hold their hands and sing Koombiya and forget that diplomacy doesn't work with madmen.

The question I have is who edited it and why. It was most likely not Iran trying to hide a failure or the original photo wouldn't have come out. Is this the work of the right-wing, defence contractor owned media sounding the drum-beats of war? It couldn't be the work of honest intentions because it doesn't represent the truth. While I applaud Rich's effort to point out the error, the damage is done.

The top one is clearly the fake!  Just look at the dust formation on the far right of the two missles on the right.  The right side of the dust formation is EXACTLY the same.  The top one is definately BS!  It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that the chances of getting the exact same dust formation are slim to none.

Anonymous, the point is the one they sent out is in fact fake.  Look at the two plumes of smoke on the right two missiles.  What do you think the chances are that two plumes match exactly in nature? The one second to the right did not launch or it launched and they chose to do a poor copy/paste over it for no reason.  Which do you think it is?

There is always someone sitting somewhere trying to find the real truth. Whoever found the apparent digitally altered phone must have had alot of time in his hand to waste it looking for the mistake but it is will worth it.

Is it the same shots or are the pics taken at fast/burst shutter speeds. The upper photo it appears the missiles are at a slightly higher elevation while the lower photo indicates the supposed dud just hasn't lifted off yet? Note in the bottom photo the missiles seem to be at a lower altitude. The exhaust covers the launch vehicle?

Israel doesnt have a history of being very humanitarian with anyone Joe, except our politicians. When their tanks shoot 8 year old Palestinian children because they threw a pebble at it...I dont invision much of anything good coming from them.

This should remind the civillians how much posturing countries to do intimidate others. It can be most effective against civillian populations where media outlets are government censored. Also can be effectove where media outlets are sensationalism driven. Saddam postured his country into the 2nd Iraq conflict(War.) The Iranian government needs to be very careful as well as all countries who may feel threatened by the posturing.
Does Iran have missiles? I believe so. Are there arrogant politicians and leaders? Yes, but not all. I just hope that the intelligent ones prevail.

The upper photo is obviously the fake.  The sudden dissipation of the trail 3rd missile (from left) looks unnatural and inconsistent with the other trails.  And the smoking gun - the left portion of the dark launcher cloud.  It matches exactly the left portion of the 4th missile's launcher cloud.  Some of the center of the cloud is cut-and-paste as well.

I noticed it when it came out. you can see they copied the second to the left missle, shortened the smoke trail, then it looks like they copied pieces of smoke for the bottom.
The ground smoke was made into two parts from the ground smoke all the way to the right.

The exhaust trails from the missles (even the 3 that are in both pictures) are slightly different too, so I agree... how do we know which one is altered.  They could both be fakes for all we know... are we sure they really fired anything successfully?  

In my opinion it would be better to see a photo of INCOMING on Iran rather than outgoing!

The 2 pictures are not the same pictures.  In the top one, the missiles have been in the air longer, the smoke plumes are longer.  Hmmmm....

What a lazy photoshop job.  It just looks as though they cloned the propulsion cloud from the right and the actual missile and trail from the left and then blurred the trail slightly near the bottom to make it look slightly different.  However poor the photoshop skill of the person who did this, no one can question the seriousness of the situation.

In the altered pic, you'll notice the front of the dust pile is the same on the third and fourth missile.

The one on the top is definately the altered photo. If you look at the exhaust smoke on the bottom right edege of the third missle its almost an exact match to the one on the fourth missle.

You would think if they took the time to alter it... at least make it less obvious?

With due respect to anonymous: The top picture is definitely fake.  Note the dust kicked up by the missile on the top launch photo.  It is strikingly similar (i.e. identical) to the far right missile in the same photo.  That seems a bit freakish - two identical clouds of dust occuring at exactly the same time on the same launch.  I don't think so.  I suppose it is possible for the bottom picture to be fake as well, but my money is on the top photo being the phoney.  Cheers.

Tne arrogance of some American people truly amazes me.  Israel had a missile test a couple of week's ago.  Why was it ok for them to do it but not for Iran. Why is it ok for Israel to have nuclear weapons but not Iran or any other middle eastern country? But it seems the top one is the altered one.  The smoke trails on the second missile from the right have many similarities to the one to its left (i.e. second missile from left).  And the dust cloud it left on the ground is very similar to the one on its right (i.e. rightmost missile)

No one happened to notice that the two pictures are completely different. They were taken at two different time points. So neither one is a fake of the other. The lower picture was taken a few moments before the top picture. You can tell this by the fact that all of the missiles have traveled farther in the top picture than the bottom picture. This is not to say that one of the pictures has been tampered with because I don't see how the missile in question could have traveled that far in relation to the other missiles if it launched after the lower picture, but before the top picture.

This is not the first time. Do you remember the "teddie bear" photos? These were a long standing habit of Arab photographers to place a teddie bear on anything related to American/Isreali war efforts/damage to play in American media. This was to show how evil the Americans were while enjoying the press freedoms they were dying to preserve. Rep. John Murtha fell for it big time. I am more worried about altered stories as well. Thank God for the internet and the destruction of mass media and it's lies. As for Iran the choice is clear. They belive the 12th mahdi will usher in world peace so the sooner they can bomb Isreal with a nuclear bomb the better. The only was to stop them is to kill them regardless of how politically incorrect or offensive to a liberal media. The question is when it will have to be done. patience is good but also stocking up on bombs, spare parts, bullets and fixing tanks is important as well. You don't want it but sometimes you have to.

As a novice in Photoshop, it is pretty easy to see (now that it was pointed out) that the sky in the background the exhause of the fake missle launch is lighter blue and the little rock formations and ground exhause under the 2 missles on the right are cloned.  They are exaclty the same.  There are 4 little puffs on smoke on the right side of the ground exhaust.  I could do much better.

In all fairness to save face... if a missle fails, it fails, why try to cover it up?

Unless the altered picture showing 4 is from a different frame than the one showing 3 missiles, then more alteration was done than just adding a missile. Compare the smoke trails.

You can tell the top picture is fake.  The cloud of smoke the added missile makes is identical to the cloud on the right.  The only exception is the bump where the trail from the missile meets the cloud.  And if you look closely there, you can see a cut line on the left side of that bump (where it was evidentally cut/cropped)

I believe we need to get all of the players in a room and get these problems taken care of before this whole thing gets out of hand. If you leave them out and talk with just a few, then you are going to upset the others and the fight goes on. If you act like they are not there or thier opinion doesn't matter, well looks what is happening with that idea.
We might not like Iran but remember we were helping them at one time. I would say our foreign policy could be alot and i mean alot better than what it is right now.

This is a very common techniques used nowadays by big new media, including CNN, BBC, etc.

I don't know about us being particularly nice about Iraq or Afghanistan. I spent 11 months in Iraq as part of the so called Operation Iraqi Freedom and I know exactly what we are doing there...As for Iran hitting Israel: who cares? Am I the only one that notices that the pictures are different altogether?  Look at the smoke trails on all the missiles.  They are different in each picture.  So who knows who really to believe.  They could be two totally different launches or Iran could've manipulated the images.  Who knows?

If Israel would make peace instead of oppression, there would be no need for Iranian missiles.  The missile test (show of force) was in response to Israel's air force exercise practicing to bomb Iran nuclear facilities (which Israel will do if they can't get Bush to do it for them).

Well Iran seems hell bent on making an themselves appear to be stronger and smarter than they really are. Do they really think they could wipe Israel off the map? Are they really that dumb to think that a few missles will rattle the state of Israel into accepting  a Nuclear Iran? All they have to do is look at the past to know that when it comes to military might you really don't want to strike Israel. But then again for the President of Iran to say the Holocaust didnt happen it kind of says it all. When the full might of the Israeli and American military is knocking on Irans door all I can say is they better turn off the lights and hide. You can see that the top photo is altered because postions of the added missile are exactly the same as other parts of the photo. Look at the backblast clouds at the far right and the second from the right.  The missile itself is exactly the one to the left (second from left). It was a lazy alteration.

Please note that once again the photos are not the same and one of them is a lie, because the location of the third missile in the bottom is not the same location from which the missile in the top picture launched.

Maybe they don't have any missiles.  Maybe the whole thing is a photoshop gag to tick off Isreal and the US.

If you look at the top picture it is pretty obvious that it was altered.  There is a slight halo around it, a common side affect of using smudge tools to blend one graphic into another.  Also, as others have noted, the third missile and smoke trail looks suspiciously similar to the forth missile.  If you look at the position of the launcher for the third and forth missile you can see that the forth launcher is farther away, so the size of the forth missile in the sky should be slightly smaller when they are actually the same size.  Those things of course are only minor give always compared to the very obvious halo around missile three.  The top photo is very fake.

I'm not so sure that one was doctored.  It appears more that the second was about 1 -2 seconds later which would have allowed the 4th missle to clear the silo.  The photo's above are clearly not the exact photo as the rocket trails are different lengths as well.  Also the rocket trails aren't an exact match either and if they were altered, you wouldn't have likely altered the trails in the subsequent pictures.

I'll be the first to say that I think we see a lot of "photo shopped" images these days and can't trust what we see all the time, but I think the two above are slightly "differently timed" photo's from a multishot sequence....

I think both sides, U.S. and Iran, need to settle their differences and tone down their warmongering upon each other. I mean, you guys realize that Al Qaeda wants this, they dislike the United States and Shiites, and they are succeeding by having these both of us war with each other until we are both weakened.

The first thing that I noticed is the difference in the sky surrounding the doctored image's failed rocket. Notice how it's a shade brighter.

Second the right portion of the dust cloud is almost identical to the last rocket on the right.

It Does not matter how many missiles they fired, the fact remains that they are trying to flex their war machine muscles in defience of the world sanctions, I think that Israel will strike in the near future with or without the approval of the USA or the rest of the world.

Look at the color of the sky surrounding the missle trails. There is a sky discoloration around the missle trail of the suspected altered missle. This was the most likely give away.

Your supplier, the Associated Press, keeps delivering to you propoganda from the Iranian News Agency, which you keep printing.

When are you going to do your job, and write a story about your supplier. They are getting these photographs from someone, and they know who that person is. That person is supplying the AP with fake photographs, which the AP dutifully sends on to you, which you then publish, making you look like a schmuck.

This is a story that you should be covering. You're not just a glorified picture chooser. You're the Associate Multimedia Editor for one of only 3 network news divisions. And the AP is using you to distribute Iran's propoganda photographs.

I think they are both dightly allterald.  There's no way those pictures could be real.  

You can tell the top photo is the altered one. The dust cloud under the missile in question is exactly the same dust cloud as the one immediately to the right of it.  Additionally, the missile in question is exactly the same as the on to the left of it with some blurring of the bottom of the exhaust trail.  I think my 5 year old can do that.

All I want to know is why Iran cannot have nuclear weapons?  If Israel, India, Pakistan along with the other industrialized nations can have them, then why not Iran?  Is it something to go to war on when we know it will cause Mutually Assured Destruction?  

With regards to irresponsible behavior being equated to Iran: the only country known to have used nuclear weapon on civilians is the US.  Need I say anymore?  Are you all blind in patriotism/arrogance and racism to not recognize your own follies?

This would be a lot of work to clone, heal, or layer mask.

First, you'd have to have a photo of a missle that was the correct distance and had the correct angle of launch, shot off at the same time of day to place there, and then spend umpteen hours fixing.

Second,assuming this is a launch of a new weapon, where do you get a photo of a missle to place there?

I can see one motivation for the alteration, if they did it, and that would be to hide the delivery vehicle.

I'd love to have a look at the best possible, largest file of this and look for myself, but it is impossible with the resolution given; too much noise.

Remeber Iran does not have nukes, yes one of their missles will do damage, but i hate to think what will get thrown at them if the time ever comes. Send a couple stealth bombers, with the U.S. Navy 5th fleet and they will be picking up the pieces of Iran for along time.

There is no need to worry. Israel will launch an airstrike and take out the Iranian nuke base before it becomes operational. Then when the world will bitch but do nothing and life will continue.

the altered photo is easy enought to identify. what are the chances that two missiles would have exactly the same pattern and contour of propulsion gases? it is simple to identify the "cloned" components that show the third missile firing.

Take a strait edge and line up the trajectory from one picture to the other. Why would they alter more than they had to instead of just putting in what was missing.I smell media bull.

The goal of launching multiple missiles is not to hit a single target.  You are launching the missiles at specific targeting goals.  The idea is to take out essential services depending on your intent.  Also, right now, they do not have nuclear warheads, so you are not discussing catastrophic loss of metropolitan areas (cities) all at once.  Missile launches like this would be done in order to take out targets with services such as power, communications, military planning and command, etc.  In order to be successful against a country such as Israel, you would NEED to insure that you take out all services at once with the highest degree of success possible.  Also remember, you will lose several of these missles due to Patriot Anti-Missile systems, etc.  and that launch failures are simply not acceptable.  You could very easily be looking at a 0% - 25% success rate.  Leaving airfields (with heavily armed aircraft), missile silos, military HQs, etc fully operational for a complete retaliation.

So...1 missile not firing can make a huge difference.

They don't even appear to be the same image if you study it. They look like to unaltered photos.

As implied earlier, both may have been altered, but is blatantly obvious that the one with four missiles firing is a
fake.  Check out the smoke/debris pattern beneath the two missiles to the right. There's virtually no chance the shapes could be so similar.  See the little goosehead shape with the three rolls of smoke in front.  It's obvious that portion was simply lifted and pasted.  Other features were obviously copied from the three missile photo also.  But, of course, if those folks have even one missile that works then many should be concerned.

As i have worked with many different aspects of Photo's for web sites and backgrounds, any body age five and above could tell the top photo is fake, they used the clone tool to copy over the extra missle in the center, from the one on the fare right (Smoke and Dust). The missle trail comes from the missle on the left of it. LoL, besides faking it, it is still a big concern, but nothing a little bigger missle would not take care of is needed.

They could both be altered for all we know. The US intelligence already said that they can only confirm appx 7 missiles were launched and Iran says it launched 9. So, there ya go. take a closer look at the smoke trails under all the missils in the top picture then try to match them with the missiles in the bottom picture. none of them match this may therefor be 2 different pictures if the launch site and the target where the same then the missils angle of fire would look the same and these pictures could have been taken days apart.

Food for thought:
One failed missile isn't going to change the fact that three did fire successfully.  Even if only one missile had fired successfully, that one missile is just as much a threat as if all four had fired successfully.

Upon close examination, it appears that the bottom photo (failed launch) has been edited, not the top photo(successful launch)!!!

On the bottom photo, zoom in and examine the left side of the exhaust pattern for far right missile.  Since when does exhaust disburse in perfectly vertical pattern?  It doesn't!  Additionally, the color variation and pixilation has very little change.  Exhaust (smoke) trails are variable and will gradually disperse.  If you look at the same exhaust pattern on the top photo, you will see a more natural dispersion.

What Iran's mullahs fail to take into account is that they are not threatening a country unable to fight back. when the first missile is launched against Israel, (assuming the Iranians are STUPID enough to launch one, the reply will wipe out Terhan and surrounding cities. Israel not only has a nuclear stockpile, but also the delivery systems.  For the Iranians to assume there will be no retaliation is idiotic.  But then, the mullahs are not noted for logical thinking. Israel will suffer but the muslims will  wind up as nothing more than a footnote in history books.  When your enemies preach  genocide you have nothing to lose by destroying them.

What's the big deal? These missiles are not nuke capable. They are just an marginally improved version of Iraq's SCUDs. The accuracy of these missiles is so bad, they would be lucky to land somewhere in the same country as their intended target. Israel is knee-deep in Patriot and Arrow anti-missile defense systems.

I don't think we have to worry about Iran launching nukes. They are ignorant, egotistical morons (the leaders anyway), but they know that if they nuked someone...anyone, really, but especially Israel...the retaliation from the US (not to mention the rest of the world) would flat out end their existance as a people. In that instance, we wouldn't be held back by the restraints of politics the way we are in Iraq and Afghanistan. Where the REAL threat lies is in the fact that Iran would likely be open to selling a dirty nuke to a terrorist organization.

The text of "to cover up a failed missle launch" doesn't make sense.  I bad at math.. but the originally release photos had 4 missiles.  They actually only launched 3 missiles.  If they only launched 3 and one failed, shouldn't they have erased the doctored picture to 2?

This photo blog is a prime example of how the government subtly introduces war against Iran into the psyche of the American people. Beware that the US is already broke and cannot fight another war with foreign money. At that point the oil stops flowing and could quickly become a major world war. Remember that Einstein said WW4 would be fought with sticks and stones.

How is it that the whole world is going to go hell just so that Israel can have atomic bombs and no one else in the Middle East?

We need to amend the Constitution to clearly define what an American president can and cannot do when it comes to our foreign policy.

As it is now, a president can wreck havoc on the world without fear of being held accountable. Now we have the Imperial President in George Bush who is telling us we need to change our laws/Constitution (surrender our rights) to combat terrorism.

Our current foreign policy allows Bush to incite wars by siding with rouge coutries like Israel, and then we have to foot the bill and take the hits (9/11 - more than 4,000 death in Iraq) while Israel sits pretty and our military industrial complex fuels the fire while making big profits.

We need a law that will prevent rouge presidents from picking out one country over the rest of the world by giving it special treatment. We need a workable "Prime Directive" that our presidents can follow that is based on technology and food assistance and not on arms, munitions and deception. Our government peddles death.

As it is now, the world is the mercy of whatever foreign special interest (American Israel Public Affairs Committee) that helps to elect our presidents. This war on terror we're fighting is the direct result of a mis-guided foreign policy.

Has anyone noticed that the dirt mounds in front of the 2nd picture?  The mound in the middle is completely missing in the top picture.  The position of the first rocket seems to be off as well in the top picture.  The launch clouds are identical in both pictures, but the rocket positions and the flames/exhaust are not.

Both images have been altered. The left missile in the LOWER photo is a duplicate of the rightmost missile. Notice the "hook" of smoke near the ground. They duped it and rotated it so the trajectory looks slightly different. So, it looks like they only got two to launch.

All I have to say is do any of you really care if the picture is a fake or not.  I really do not care if Iran get a nuclear missile, That is everyone;s concern, no?  No one is stupid or crazy enough to launch a nuclear weapon, not with the US having so many of them.  Remember the us can blanket any country 10 times over if they so wish it.  

I think you all missed a point,in the lower picture the missile launcher is a good distance AHEAD of the other 3 whilst in the upper picture they have all fired IN LINE .

the give away is the top picture.  the blending on it stinks.  why is the sky behind the third missle trail a lighter color? when you cut and paste you must then blend -- somebody missed that one.  Also, Notice the rock/mud under the third missle and the 4th.  The "peaks" under the 3rd is exact to the 4th.. cut and paste on your own and you will see the tops align perfectly

The photo's editing is extremely obvious.
Look how sparse the smoke on the third missile is. Do any of the other missiles have smoke plume bases so sparse? No.
Look at the top of the little dirt mount underneath the rightmost missile. Now look at the third from left missile in the doctored photo. Look below it... look familiar? That dirt mound is present in the doctored photo but not in the origial. Did someone do landscaping in the sheer seconds before the missile launched?
Look at the sky around the third missile in the doctored photo. It's a lighter blue than all the surrounding sky. This photo is 1,000% doctored. To say it isn't is sheer stupidity.
Moreover, missiles fly FAST. Even if the photos were taken MILISECONDS apart, there's no way the "third missile" would have travelled so far while the others didn't move hardly at all.

What's really interesting is that both photos are different.  You must look carefully back and forth to see it.  I work with PS everyday and I see 2 different pictures.

It's obvious that the top photo was altered.  My 12 year old daughter could notice this.  The missile trail in the 3rd rocket was copied and pasted from the 2nd and 4th rocket, as well as the plume of smoke at the base.  The 3rd one obviously failed and they didn't want to look stupid to the rest of the world.  But they look even more unintelligent with this lousy attempt to cover it up.

And yes, while the Iranian rhetoric about the launches is rediculous, they have the freedom to launch inside their own country as much as we do.  They didn't detonate a nuke, (nor hopefully will they ever)...they were just demonstrating their capabilities to launch as we've been doing to show we can shoot them down.

The image is so obvious manipulated. Any one experienced with PS can see the action of Clone Stamp. In the lower part of the images the clouds of the second missile are identical with the first one on the right. Obvious the designer was in the high pressure to get the job out fast.

If you look at the bottom photo the misfired missile was on the back of a truck. Just on the other side of the truck to the left you will see another vehicle, red. Now look at the top photo the vehicles are gone and it appears a third missile was fired. Also on the top photo compare the smoke from the blasts the formations on the bottom left and far right have not changed. Smoke doesn' stand still. Looks like a cut & paste to me. The vehicles could not have moved out of the way that fast.

In regards to first blood, (this is why it is important for everyone to remember history. For if we do not learn from it we are doomed to repeat it). Fact: Iraq was first to draw blood on the people of Kawait. The goverment of Kawait and Saudia Arabia asked the UN for help. The UN secerity counsel agreed and pulled the USA and the EU into a small war now known as the Gulf War. It was a short conflict and the then President Bush, maintained restraint and only destroyed a part of Iraq's offensive capability. Iraq quickly ended its attacks on the Allied forces and was held to defunked end of hostilities treaty (such as Germany and Japan was after WWII). However unlike Germany and Japan who followed the rules of the treaty, Iraq continued to push and taunt Allied forces. ie. firing missles at Allied aircraft targeting Allied aircraft with radar. Any of which made the hostility treaty nil and void. Giving the US the right to continue it's offensive attacks on Iraq. I do however feel that the use of WMDs as the reason to resume the conflict with Iraq as a repugnant lie to the American people as well as the those of the world. But I digress it was Iraq who drew first blood.

Who says that EITHER photo is real? Were any of us there when they were launched? Were these even launched in Iran? We dont even know how old the photos are. We cant even trust OUR media in America but we are quick to give credibility to Iran to say that ONE of these photos IS REAL when we know at least one of them is fake! We already occupy Countries surrounding Iran and if we(USA) start a war with a country that DOES NOT have neuclear weapons(IRAQ) then what makes the people of Iran believe we may not do the same to them unless they show some might? We sit here writing to comment on photographs that are real and fake. What happens when the U.S. tests its missiles? Should we be banned from testing our missiles? Of course not since, apparently, we must be more smarter, rational, and better decision-makers. Please don't forget that regardless of one's feelings towards a nation or religion, it's irresponsible for the U.S. to push their weight around to force others to do what they are not willing to do. Also, our economic crisis is our own fault. We have stopped being a self-sufficient nation and rely heavily on third-world, cheaply manufactured/produced goods which are most likely made by the poorest of populations paid the least. I am pro-American and always have been, but just like our parents being wrong sometimes, our nation can be too. Iran is threat only if we make it one. No question about it--the picture with 4 missiles is the doctored version.  If you want to see it for yourself, copy the image on the screen into Photoshop and look carefully at the launch plume of the second from left missile.  There is a very harsh pixel shift and a hard edge where in the unaltered version there is none.  If you zoom in closely enough you can also see multiple pixel patterns that are identical to each other.  The digital erasure of the launch truck is also very visible in the doctored photo, as you can see the overlay on the launch plume of the second from left missile.

I am against all nuclear weapon programs.  One nuke is one too many.  But let's be honest here.  If there is a conflict between Israel and Iran, Israel will most likely have been the one to have started it.  And think about it this way.  Let's say they hit Israel with three nukes.  Israel has over 200.  Guess who wins?

I was in the Navy and was on deployment to the middle east last year stationed aboard an aircraft carrier.  we were stationed in a box for almost three straight months about 30 miles off the coast of Iran.  essentially i was a radar operator, an air contoller and i monitored communications coming out of Iran (when they were trying to talk to us.)  let me just say that we would blow them out of the water.  I dont know what they were looking at through their radars but they constantly mistook our aircraft for ships. the funniest thing too except we were not allowed to respond back when they would query us.  If we got into a shooting war they could put a little bit of a sting to us but we have enough firing power on 1 carrier fleet to destroy that country. not that we should, diplomacy is always the best option but that military have got to be the most inept military around. it wouldnt suprise me the least if they doctored any and all of their photos.

You have to be completely incompitent to think the first image has not been altered. It is amazing that even the news crews that publish such images can't take a look and see what mistakes are easily noticeable. Who do they pay for this job to determine fake/altered images? It is pathetic to think that they are just now coming across this conclusion when it should have been notived at the very first sight of the image.

I am a retired CI analyst and I tell you things are never as complicated as you try and make them.  Iran had to show it could hit Israel after Israel showed it could bomb Irans Nuclear Sites.  After one failed, they had to doctor the photo to show 100% success in order to save face.  

Remember, Saddam would still be in power if he had not poised as if he still had WMD.  He did it in order to stay in power (he thought) and to save face in to the rest of the leaders of the middle east after being bombed into the stone age after the Invasion of Kuwait.  

Iran has to keep us off balance and at bay until it can test a nuclear weapon and then negotiate with the world the same way North Korea has.  Once you get Nukes, people don't threaten to invade anymore.  They are terrified of the US but cant back down or will be thrown out of power.  We did this by not backing the Moderate government in place when Bush took office - they got tossed and the hardliners took over.

Iran is a problem, there is no easy answer.  Events like these were expected by most analysts and the photoshopping is nosurprise either.

My Gawd you guys are dumb. That wasnt a photograph, it was a frame off of a movie clip! That is why both are slightly different. The smoke on the ground and the ground itself is off of a different frame than the rockets.

Look at the truck, you blind people.  In the top photo, there is no sign of the truck, and the second from right plume is set back with the other plumes.  In the bottom photo, the truck is set far in front of all of the plumes.  I say both photos are fake.

Ok, forget the missile in question for a moment, does anyone else see that the second plume to the left is completely different in the two photos?

Iraq - no just cause?

IRAQ broke the cease fire dozens of times before we attacked.

IRAQ invaded Kuwait TWICE in the 20th century, propting the war in 1991 that ended in a cease fire. DO you KNOW what a cease fire means?

IRAQ used WMD on their own people, the Kurds.

IRAQ either had WMD, or refused verification to provoke an attack, either way, all they ahd to do was let is in to verify.

IRAQ had WMD, ask the Kurds and Iranians who saw it first hand, whether or not they destroyed all of them or not, they could easily reconstitute the programs. Add that to thier molevelant intent, and there you go, a legitimate threat ot US national interest.

This is just a short list, but there are many reasons the war happened, and to try to simplify it by looking at it in black and white, or refuse to look at it from both sides, exposes stupidity, bias, and a lack of logic.

As for Iran, they tried to exterminate Iraq for 10 solid years and couldnt do it, they have made little progress on that front, and these missles are there only hope to project power, THAT is why they photoshopped it.

Why are we concerned with some outdated missile system from Iran? Why don't we discuss Israel's nukes supplied by the US? It's OK for Israel to conduct offensive military trainings to threaten its neighbors and perhaps start a nuclear conflict in the entire Middle East, but yet, Iran is forbidden to defend itself. Where is the logic here? It is obvious that Isreal is the apparent 'BULLY' in that hot and sensitive region of the world. You need to get a grip on life.The United States is the most noble country in the world.  Just look back at World War II.  We occupied Germany and Japan after the war.  Look at those countries today. Do we Occupy them? No!  We helped them in reconstruction.  Helped them rise out of the ashes and become productive nations.  Iraq invaded the Soveredight nation of Kuwait.  After we beat them so badly, we gave them a break and signed a treaty with stiplulations.  We could have walked in to Bagdad after the first Gulf War and taken over and straightened out the region.  But no!, we felt we could rehabilitate Sadam, turn him and his foolish ideas around.  Ten years of diddley Dinking around, it was finally time to take him down.  Unfortunately we gave him and the radical Jihadists a chance to regroup and plot and plan.  That's why we're having the dificulties we face now.  What are we doing in Iraq?  We're helping to rebuild infrastructure, schools, electric power, water resources.  We're not plundering like some pirate.  If we don't stabilize that area, we're in for a whole lot of trouble for your lifetime and that of your childred and grandchildren.

You notice the truck is gone and replaced with a small hill. the think you have to consider is once you know a photo is doctored, how do you determine which parts of it is accurate. For all the nay sayers you'er a bunch of morons. The picture was obtained by France from an Iraian web site. Then it was picked up by tha AP and published by everybody. Then the real source of the photo gave the real picture to France who questioned the first ones validity. The picture was then removed from the Iranian web site by Iran and replaced by the real photo without any explination. But just so you know I served at Ft Bliss, Tx the US Army Air Defence Command and School. I am a trained foward observer and fully capable of determining the source of the missle plume. The top photo is the altered one. They are also two different photos. When photographers take pictures they take several at the same time in secession (one right after another). I think the web site administrater altered the picture. They simply cut and paste what they needed. That explaines why they missles have longer plumes in the top picture and shorter ones in the bottom picture. Also in the altered picture between the ground dust ant the copied plume the disapation is a little blurry compaired to the other missles. This cleary shows alteration, I think this is what cought Rich's attention to the photo's being altered.

The photos were taken at different times.  Just measure the distance from the ground to the bottom of the missiles. They're different in the two photos.  Also, the plume on the fourth missile looks different when comparing the two photos.  How can you prove they were photoshopped anyway?

the first thing that came to my mind was that the Bush Administration changed these Photos to build support for thier war plans, since the effects of '911' are wearing off.

I dont think the issue of the US having troubles with occupying Iraq has the same concern over Iran. Any hits on Iraq will not be in a position to occupy but more so to Neutralize. Air Attacks on major targets and a bombardment of the ground forces will most likely be the focus. I cant forsee the US putting boots on the ground as we have scene with the occupation of Iraq.

The top photo is so badly-done that it's laughable. The two smoke plumes on the left and center are mostly identical. There is no shadow on the ground to the left of the center plume. All in all, a terrible job of fakery. Any photo editor who ran the top photo needs to get some basic retraining, or eye care, or both, and quickly.

The unfortunate thing about all of this is that our country has been reduced to not much more than being a loud mouth bully.  We boast about how we would defend, protect, etc.  But really when it comes down to it we will never use nukes.  Everyone knows this and because its a bluff we no longer have the credibility we once had.  Not that the Cuban Missle Crisis or Cold War years were good.  Our military is still the best and the strongest but nukes aren't part of the equation.  Don't kid yourself, if Sept. 11, 2001 wasn't a good enough reason to use 'em, we lost our chance at ever playing the nuke card again.

so all you experts - what is the big deal about these missle tests - except for the fact that our media brought it front and center exactly what Iranian administration wanted? Israel needs to chill out a bit - we are fighting enough wars because they can get their act together.

Whether the photos are altered or not or even who may have altered them isnt really worth getting up in the air about.  Those that think we shouldnt care whether or not Iran gets nukes really need to listen to the retoric that Iran as well as most of the rest of the Islamic radical countrys are spewing.  You have to realize that according to them if you are not of the Islamic faith then you are an enemy to them and they believe that all infidels are supposed to be killed espesially if you are Jewish as their belief is that Israel is occupying land that (in their belief) is Islamic holy ground. They havent yet grasped the freedom of religion we have here in the US.

You can easily see the alterations. Also look at how the fence lines up with the rest on the picture, compare first and second picture and you see the copy\paste lines. Also extra dust added to cover up the smaller vehicle standing to the left of the launch vehicle. The smoke\dust they added is copy paste from the right smoke, cut in three peices and pasted in different order.
If you have photoshop at home (as I do) you can clearly see it and even make more changes if you want.

The next question you have to ask is where did they go? Anyone can set off a rocket, but does it go where they wanted it to which is a lot harder than just shooting off pyrotechnics. Israel, however should not hesitate to obliterate Iran (what six or seven cities?) if they ever land on Israeli soil.

I find it interesting that this photoshopping is being reported when the repeated photoshopping and setting up like a movie set of phony US and Israeli attack on civilians is rarely reported.  And remember all of this fakery is viewed by their people on a daily basis on their television.  It is no wonder so many hate us over there.  I am no fan of George Bush but Clinton did no better in our Middle East policy.  And let's not forget all those members of Congress, both Democrats and Republicans, who gave him the go ahead to invade Iraq. I don't know if it was the right thing to do but quite frankly, no one knows what would have happened if Sadam had stayed in power either. The photo has been manipulated with several glaring mistakes. The smoke cloud might be plausible, not really possible, but if the conditions were just right and the missiles both ignited identically and the ground make-up was the same… The real issue is that the third launcher is in the foreground and the smoke from the missile is in the back ground. The concept that this was a time framed photo of a later moment, would mean that the third missile is some new supersonic version for the other three, as it’s climbing at a substantially quicker rate than the rest. Not very likely As these appear to be small surface to surface missiles similar to the unguided “scuds” used previously by Iraq. The smudged exhaust trail on the third missile only confirms it’s an altered copy of the second rocket’s trail. The rocket boosters leave large uniform trails unless there was a “freak” gust of wind just affecting that trail. That might explain how it moved from the foreground to the background…Oops.

Personally, i worry that since they have a history of attacking people that offend thier religion, it's not defensive in nature, as RoslynMD has us believe-it's Offensive. Well, unless Iran has figured out how to launch missiles that create idential clouds of smoke, the top image is fake.  Take a look at the cloud of smoke near the ground beneath the two missiles on the right.  The right side of each cloud is the same.  It's an obvious fake.

Well boys, if you look at the brown clouds under those two missiles on right side, you will notice that they are identical which is absolutely impossible in reality. Ground (brown) cloud is identical - thus graphic copy of the cloud which is under first missile from right ! Quite obvious..

I am a Graphic Designer and I can assure all of you that the top photo showing four missles is digitally altered.

The NY Times was not the initial source of the discovered forgery; it came out of the 'amateur' blogosphere yesterday (though I couldn't peg the first source).  It would be nice if you acknowledge that the rank amateurs caught the professionals slipping up on this one (it seems to happen a lot these days).

Iran is part of a rich cultural heritage from which the likes of Rumi, Persian rugs, some beautiful films, etc. has risen. I feel very scared for the Iranian people. Militarily, Iran is pretty weak and definitely would not survive any kind of war with Israel or the US. Right next door, the neighbors, the Iraqis were attacked because their president was a selfish, greedy hack. But who was hurt as a result? Children, granparents, parents, sisters and brothers - just like you, like everywhere else - they have a right to live peaceful lives without bombs raining over their heads or machine gun fire piercing through the walls of their homes. At just to be clear - there is a difference between saying you want to wipe a "nation" of the face of a "map" vs. saying you want to literally destroy/kill/murder all of it's people. Arhmenejad was a making a political statement regarding seeing Israel as an illegal nation and that the "nation" as a political, artificial boundary gained by force shouldn't exist - he never said to wipe the Israeli people off the face of the earth. However, Israeli officials have said that they wish to destroy/kill/murder all arabs. Who exactly is the bully here? Why does Israel get to go on its merry terrorizing way without a word of criticism from US govt and its allies? Because Israel is just really a military base for western powers to have a strong military foothold/threat in the middle east. Read a little history folks before making grand statments about destroying a nation and its people b/c really all it does it make you sound like little Osama bin ladens...maybe even 10x worse.

Having both photos to view, it's easy to see the missile was "painted" in - the sky is too bright immediately surrounding the contrail, as compared to the others.

The bottom picture is clearly the fake one, and a bad photoshop job. If you look at the left side of the smoke cloud on the right most missle, you will notice the perfectly straight edge. Since when does smoke form a perfect line? Also, look at the change in the topography of the bottom picture. Clearly touched up. If people think that Iran is anything like Iraq in terms of how formidable an opponent it would be, they need to think again. And, yet, a nuclear Iran cannot be an option. This is a dangerous situation that could touch off more than just an encounter with Iran, which would be bad enough in itself. Let's all keep in mind that the Iranian people are good people, led by a non-secular government playing a very dangerous game.

I can not believe one of the gals actually things that one of these pictures was simply taken shortly after the other.  Not only are the plumes exactly the same, but the missile launcher moved up AND take a close look at the little dirt burm coming across from the left.  A portion of it has been clearly modified as the new launcher was put in.  They added a pile of dirt if you look.  But the absolute proof of a fake is the simple fact of the duplicated plume of smoke and dirt.  Not just a slim chance of that not happening, but no chance whatsoever.  I'd be leery of the one post here of the person that thinks Iran has a right to launch missiles and "defend themselves".  There is a reason they should not be allowed.  We only oppose countries from having these weapons when they can not be trusted to manage them and control themselves.    

Very good all! .... As you can see in the top photo, it has most assuredly been altered. If you look at the smoke/exhaust plumes of the two missles on the right, you will observe that the right side of both plumes match indentically. If this is any indication of their technical abilities, including their plutonium enrichment process,  maybe we do not even need to worry ... LMBO.

Considering that Iran has to go on EBay to procure parts for their stolen 35 year-old F-14 Tomcat fighters, its not exactly a stretch to assume that their missiles aren't exactly top-of-the-line either.  Maybe they use those shoes with the toes curled at the tip as field-expedient wrenches.

anybody see the pictures of Isreals show of air power just a few days before. what should a country do when another country is continually threatening to bomb you.

Doctored or not, it DOES show that Iran is testing long range delivery vehciles that can carry a variety of warheads. Additionally they are enriching uranium that could be used to make said warheads.

Iran is a country run by radical muslims who would like nothing better than to destroy Israel and anyone who supports and defends Israel. They would rather see Jews dead than their own children alive. I have no doubt in my mind that they would sacrifice their whole poplulation to see the eradication of Israel come to pass.

We can no longer forget that these radical muslims DO mean us harm. They want us dead. They want to destroy us and our way of life.

Although Iraq ended up not having WMD's, everyone believed they did and Saddam WANTED everyone to believe it too. Don't forget that they shot SCUD missles at Isreal just a few years earlier. We could not ignore that. Hindsight is 20/20. Now we can see that there were mistakes made and the WMD issue is a big one.

BUT

Does anyone question whether Iran has the intent & ability to kill alot of people very fast? If so, we must act, as a nation and as United Nations. Freedom is not free. It is bought by the blood of our fathers, forefathers & children.

Never Forget!

I'm not sure if anyone has answered this, but I know various have asked or posed questions related to it.  If you look very closely at the two photos, it is obvious that the two original pictures were almost certainly taken by the same camera in continuous fire mode.  All three of the missiles in both are at higher altitude in the top picture.  It's hard to catch at first because both photos have been cropped off at the top.

That also explains why the cloud of the second rocket looks different in the two photos.  If you notice, all of them look slightly different although the others are much more similar.  I just wonder why whoever edited the top photo didn't clone from the second image.  It would have been at least a little easier to mask heh.

As for the disappearing vehicles, they cloned the ground to cover the bottom parts while the dust covered most of the rest.  It appears they cloned the rock from the right, probably to cover a discontinuity in the coverup job.  Also, look at the right cloud.  There is a shadow behind it as apparently the sun was off to the right side.  The shadow is almost totally erased in the top photo as a result of their cloning the ground.  Last I checked, the sun didn't change positions in the sky quite that quickly.

As far as why it is important, two reasons come to mind.  First, hiding the launch vehicle could be important to them although odds are we already know what they look like.  Many have suggested it doesn't matter if it was 3/4, but when it comes down to it it really does.  If we said 3/4 of our weapons accurately hit their targets, that would be considered a pretty lousy rate considering modern technology.  They're only saying 3/4 launched without doctoring the photo.  Getting the missile to hit its target is a bigger problem than launching one (just ask WW2 Germany).  So if 3/4 launch and even fewer are accurate, that's a pretty pathetic threat.  But if you say every one of them launches it says your techniques are pretty solid and for all anyone knows you can also hit your targets just as well.  

But yes, the top was definitely faked.  For all we know they both could be an none may have been launched, but then it wouldn't make sense why a photo with a launch vehicle would even exist at all.  Granted, I haven't seen a source cited for the lower image, but the top one was attributed to Iran's official networks, so someone on their side did that editing.

When one these missles hits Israel we won't have to worry about it as within 15 minutes of that time Iran will be as flat as parking lot and smoking from their nukes.

After posting my last one, I looked again and found yet another sign.  If you look at the trail from number 2 and number 3, take a look closely and you will also see in the exact same spot, part way down from the rocket is a little bitty puff on the upper side.  It is exact!  I blew up the pictures and did a couple overlays.  it is exact folks.  If anyone would like to see my analysis, email me.  kirkproductions at gmail dot com.

One missile may have failled out of nine?  And the point is?  Are we to assume the point is that eight missles armed with nukes are not sufficient hurt anyone, but nine are?  Yes, yes, yes, Iran does not have nukes, at least as far as we know.  But the point is that Iran has missle technology capable of striking at a distance, whether an occassion missle fails or not.

We need missle defenses, the Democrats have opposed it, opposed it, opposed it .....  We need to contain/stop Iran's nuclear program and Obama is apparently ignorant of all sticks and carrots tried to-date, and ignorant that as long as China and Russia are not interested in sticks and carrots such attempts are doomed to fail.

I am not suggesting war or anything of the kind, but that we need to pull or heads out of the sand, and the Democrats have their's so deep as to be dangerous.

When Obama speaks about Iran, it sounds like he thinks dealing with Iran is like training a puppy, it just takes a little time and love.  The facts are that if Iran wants nuclear weapons, they don't want money, nuclear fuel, treaties, etc., they want nukes.  Of course if you we are stupid enough to give them all that and allow them to develop nukes they will take that, just like Clinton did in N. Korea.  Clinton gave them fuel and food, and then let them build bombs.  Not all problems are negotiably fixed.

I do plenty of image editing and manipulation and it is very clear that it would have been pointless to turn the bottom photo into the top photo.

And if they were trying to cover up a failed 4th launch, then why is the area where the missile siting just blank on the top picture?  

First: I didn't read every reply, but of the ones I did, I only saw one person who noticed the same thing I did without even looking at the 2nd picture- Look at the horrible blend of the sky around the photoshopped missile. Amateur at best.

Second: People saying they are two different pictures- The missiles look like they've travelled farther in the top photo because it's on top! Your brain has been tricked! The only thing that I can see that would even come CLOSE to showing these as two images is that they were cropped differently! Surprise! We already know it's been altered!

If we look at all the comments from folks in Texas, it's no wonder we have a President with similar thoughts.

People, remember growing up and the school bully threatened you? How did it feel to worry about losing your lunch? Well, how would we feel as a country if for example another country surrounded the US with Gun Ships in the ocean and Fighter planes stationed in Mexico and Canada? We would too want to defend ourselves and not raise the white flag.

There are bigger plans we as American citizens are not aware of, people benefiting from the war behind closed doors. Remember how the War in Iraq began, stir up fears of WMDs and the psyche of the people agreed with the President to attack, and afterwards we found out there were no WMDs but again...someone is making money. And now, stir up fear of Iran. Someone obviously has not made enough money from the military and war thus far.

To all those who are saying this are two different photos, its just the cropping on the second photo is tighter.. look at the distance between the far left fence post and the edge of the frame, the lower one is much closer. From the top to the bottom of the fence is also shorter in the lower one.

It is no different than what the US military did in the First Gulf war.  Showing videos of how accurate their laser guided bombs where, only thing a lot of them were the wrong targets.

Did anyone recently read where the U.S. removed 550 tons of yellow cake from Iraq?  This is mainline media stuff, all be it page 27 stuff.  The point is that Saddam had yellow cake, and yet you had Valory Plain's (spelling?) husband claim otherwise.  And not to forget that the British also confirmed that Saddam did indeed try to collect more yellow cake from Niger.  SO if the U.S. removed 550 tons from Iraq, it is pretty easy to call Plain's husband, a hack or a lier or ignorate.  But the point is that Saddam was a danger, and that the media has continually bent over backward to coverup much.

Unfortunately, We need to realize that history DOES repeat itself, & what we are seeing IS nothing less than an ABSOLUTE THREAT, with China & Russia providing the supplies.

Every one of us wants negotiation, diplomacy, & compliance instead of war,except extremists in a few middle eastern countires. They recruit their poor & give them jobs as what else? More extremists wanting to take down anything civilized, that are now scattered throughout not only the Middleast, but Europe & the U.S.    

Like Israel,we need to get a backbone because we may be fighting this type of enemy forever, unless we can make a prescence & allies in the Middleast.

Has anyone noticed that when oil prices start to fall, that Iran starts firing off rockets or their mouths, causing people to start spectulating on oil.  I think Iran has figured out that they will make more money if they create more international tension, which they are correct.

Im surprised that no one has ever cared to ask why can Israel have nuclear technology and Iran can't? Is there an international law or is it yet another American world wide bias. Mybe this time Israel will finally learn how to give and take rather than just take.

Remember how the War in Iraq began, stir up fears of WMDs and the psyche of the people agreed with the President to attack, and afterwards we found out there were no WMDs but again...someone is making money.

The Iraq war started in 1991 over Iraqs invasion of Kuwait and the genocide of the Kurds. A cease fire remained in tact untill Saddam broke it in every way imaginable and hostilities were RESUMED. Every step of the way Saddam had a way to remain in power and avoid war, and he chose to let his people die.

Dont coment on a war if you dont even know when it started or why, and do not understand the term cease fire!

These missiles should only open eyes to the capabilities of the Iranian Nation(or lack of). They want attention, good or bad they obviously don't care which. Of course we and the world need to plan for the worst. Yet you always have to give the benefit of the doubt. No preemptive strikes we are not mind readers or fortune tellers.

Day One -
The War With Iran

The war began as planned. The Israeli pilots took off well before dawn and streaked across Lebanon and northern Iraq, high above Kirkuk. Flying US-made F-15 and F-16s, the Israelis separated over the mountains of western Iran, the pilots gesturing a last minute show of confidence in their mission, maintaining radio silence.
 
Just before the sun rose over Tehran, moments before the Muslim call to prayer, the missiles struck their targets. While US Air Force AWACS planes circled overhead--listening, watching, recording--heavy US bombers followed minutes later. Bunker-busters and mini-nukes fell on dozens of targets while Iranian anti-aircraft missiles sped skyward.
 
The ironically named Bushehr nuclear power plant crumbled to dust. Russian technicians and foreign nationals scurried for safety. Most did not make it.
 
Targets in Saghand and Yazd, all of them carefully chosen many months before by Pentagon planners, were destroyed. The uranium enrichment facility in Natanz; a heavy water plant and radioisotope facility in Arak; the Ardekan Nuclear Fuel Unit; the Uranium Conversion Facility and Nuclear Technology Center in Isfahan; were struck simultaneously by USAF and Israeli bomber groups.
 
The Tehran Nuclear Research Center, the Tehran Molybdenum, Iodine and Xenon Radioisotope Production Facility, the Tehran Jabr Ibn Hayan Multipurpose Laboratories, the Kalaye Electric Company in the Tehran suburbs were destroyed.
 
Iranian fighter jets rose in scattered groups. At least those Iranian fighter planes that had not been destroyed on the ground by swift and systematic air strikes from US and Israeli missiles. A few Iranian fighters even launched missiles, downing the occasional attacker, but American top guns quickly prevailed in the ensuing dogfights.
 
The Iranian air force, like the Iranian navy, never really knew what hit them. Like the slumbering US sailors at Pearl Harbor, the pre-dawn, pre-emptive attack wiped out fully half the Iranian defense forces in a matter of hours.
 
By mid-morning, the second and third wave of US/Israeli raiders screamed over the secondary targets. The only problem now, the surprising effectiveness of the Iranian missile defenses. The element of surprise lost, US and Israeli warplanes began to fall from the skies in considerable numbers to anti-aircraft fire.
 
At 7:35 AM, Tehran time, the first Iranian anti-ship missile destroyed a Panamanian oil tanker, departing from Kuwait and bound for Houston. Launched from an Iranian fighter plane, the Exocet split the ship in half and set the ship ablaze in the Strait of Hormuz. A second and third tanker followed, black smoke billowing from the broken ships before they blew up and sank. By 8:15 AM, all ship traffic on the Persian Gulf had ceased.
 
US Navy ships, ordered earlier into the relative safety of the Indian Ocean, south of their base in Bahrain, launched counter strikes. Waves of US fighter planes circled the burning wrecks in the bottleneck of Hormuz but the Iranian fighters had fled.
 
At 9 AM, Eastern Standard Time, many hours into the war, CNN reported a squadron of suicide Iranian fighter jets attacking the US Navy fleet south of Bahrain. Embedded reporters aboard the ships--sending live feeds directly to a rapt audience of Americans just awakening--reported all of the Iranian jets destroyed, but not before the enemy planes launched dozens of Exocet and Sunburn anti-ship missiles. A US aircraft carrier, cruiser and two destroyers suffered direct hits. The cruiser blew up and sank, killing 600 men. The aircraft carrier sank an hour later.
 
By mid-morning, every military base in Iran was partially or wholly destroyed. Sirens blared and fires blazed from hundreds of fires. Explosions rocked Tehran and the electrical power failed. The Al Jazeerah news station in Tehran took a direct hit from a satellite bomb, leveling the entire block.
 
At 9:15 AM, Baghdad time, the first Iranian missile struck the Green Zone. For the next thirty minutes a torrent of missiles landed on GPS coordinates carefully selected by Shiite militiamen with cell phones positioned outside the Green Zone and other permanent US bases. Although US and Israeli bomber pilots had destroyed 90% of the Iranian missiles, enough Shahabs remained to fully destroy the Green Zone, the Baghdad airport, and a US Marine base. Thousands of unsuspecting US soldiers died in the early morning barrage. Not surprisingly, CNN and Fox withheld the great number of casualties from American viewers.
 
By  9:30 AM, gas stations on the US east coast began to raise their prices. Slowly at first and then altogether in a panic, the prices rose. $4 a gallon, and then $5 and then $6, the prices skyrocketed. Worried motorists, rushing from work, roared into the nearest gas station, radios blaring the latest reports of the pre-emptive attack on Iran. While fistfights broke out in gas stations everywhere, the third Middle Eastern war had begun.
 
In Washington DC, the spin began minutes after the first missile struck its intended target. The punitive strike--not really a war said the harried White House spokesman--would further democracy and peace in the Middle East.  Media pundits mostly followed the party line. By ridding Iran of weapons of mass destruction, Donald Rumsfeld declared confidently on CNN, Iran might follow in the footsteps of Iraq, and enjoy the hard won fruits of freedom.
 
The president scheduled a speech at 2 PM. Gas prices rose another two dollars before then. China and Japan threatened to dump US dollars. Gold rose $120 an ounce. The dollar plummeted against the Euro.
 
CNN reported violent, anti-American protests in Paris, London, Rome, Berlin and Dublin. Fast food franchises throughout Europe, carrying American corporate logos, were firebombed.
 
A violent coup toppled the pro-American Pakistan president. On the New York Stock Exchange, prices fell in a frenzy of trading--except for the major petroleum producers. A single, Iranian Shahab missile struck Tel Aviv, destroying an entire city block. Israel vowed revenge, and threatened a nuclear strike on Tehran, before a hastily called UN General Assembly in New York City eased tensions.
 
An orange alert in New York City suddenly reddened to a full-scale terror alarm when a package detonated on a Manhattan subway. Mayor Bloomberg declared martial law. Governor Pataki ordered the New York National Guard fully mobilized, mobilizing what few national guardsmen remained in the state.
 
President Bush looked shaken at 2 PM.  The scroll below the TV screen reported Persian Gulf nations halting production of oil until the conflict could be resolved peacefully. Venezuelan president, Hugo Chavez, announced a freeze in oil deliveries to the US would begin immediately. Tony Blair offered to mediate peace negotiations, between the US and Israel and Iran, but was resoundingly rejected.
 
By 6 PM, Eastern Standard Time, gas prices had stabilized at just below $10 a gallon. A Citgo station in Texas, near Fort Sam Houston Army base, was firebombed. No one claimed responsibility. Terrorism was not ruled out.
 
At sunset, the call to prayer--in Tehran, Baghdad, Islamabad, Ankara, Jerusalem, Jakarta, Riyadh--sounded uncannily like the buzzing of enraged bees.

Whether the photos were doctored or not is irrelevant. The fact that even ONE missle was successfully test fired should make everyone stand up and take notice TODAY - NOT tomorrow or next week.
If one looks at history (As history really DOES repeat itself) the same thing is happening today as happened in the late 1930's. We tried diplomacy with a German fantatic then and we kept hands off as he took over most of Europe, developed missles that rained down daily on England and killed and imprisoned millions of people -- Jews, Christians AND Muslims.

As an experienced photoshopologist, I would have taken the failed one out rather than add another in. Would have been easier and looked better, less chance of something like this happening.

The word "Japs" was a normal discription of them sneeky backstabbing attackers before the term was determined to be offensive.  I'm sorry if you are offended by the facts but then again it the truth hurts we may as well be liars.

As far as the Iran-Contra affair if you read your history books you would know that America sold the Iranians those Stinger rockets (without the firing pins) as a way to show we were not still upset with them for the way they treated us in the early 80's.  We wanted to be nice guys but then the Iraqi's found out about it and killed 37 American service men on the USS Stark.  The Contras were fighting communist and needed to overthrough their communist government.  That whole mess was cleared up when Oliver North took the fall for it.  Now if we allow the Russians and the North Koreans to sell weapons to the Iranians, who would buy our second hand rockets from us?  Oh yeah, the people from China.  The Chineese now have the current guidance system technology stolen from our (no longer used) Pershing nuclear missiles we once used to fend off the Soviet Union.

It's too bad that Iran is wasting all of their money to show their strength. When they could be using this money towards education. As could the rest of us. We humans could be an extremely intelligent being if we would stop wasting our time fighting each other. Think of where we could be in 10-20 years from now. Americans ignorance of the politics and cultures of the near east is very disconcerting. Israel is not the only contry in the region concerned about these missile launches. The Saudis are also concerned. However it is important to realize that the tests were in response to Israeli military excercises in the Mediteranean last week. Iran is only demonstrating that it is capable of striking Israel in response to any Israeli attacks on suspected nuclear power plants or uranium enrichment facilities. The reality is that since the invasion of Iraq by U.S. forces, the balance of power has shifted. Iran is now the major military and economic power in the region. Saudi Arabia and Israel are not comfortable with this power shift. It is also important to recognize that the United States, or Israel, are not capable of launching a full scale invasion of Iran. The only military options available are limited special forces operations, tactical missile strikes, or tactical nuclear strikes. Iran's response to any attack will be devastating to the world economy and to Israel. They can halt oil production, which will push a barrel of oil to over $200, they can strike Israel with missiles as demonstrated, or aircraft, and Hezbollah can attack Israel and possibly other western interests. They can increase their efforts to destabilize Iraq, and it will put tremendous strain on the United States relations with countries, like China, which depend on Iranian oil production. The Iranians pose a significant military and economic threat to U.S. interests if they are provoked by Israel. Remember that Iraq was crippled by sanctions and the ineptitude of Saddam. Iran is not hurt by our sanctions. Its economy continues to function. Their military is the largest and strongest in the region, and includes a capable airforce, navy, army and special forces. Iran is not Iraq. U.S. foreign policy needs to shift with the balance of power. It is in Americans interest to develop economic relations with Iran and reduce the military aid to Israel and Saudi Arabia. It is likely that such a dramatic change in American foreign policy would have a positive effect on stability in the region. 19 of the 21 9/11 bombers were from Saudi Arabia, and every Arab will condemn the United States for supporting Israels occupation of Palestine and their oppre Palestinians. Iran also has a reasonable amount of influence with Shia Muslims in Iraq. This influence could be used to help the Americans effort in rebuilding Iraq, rather than undermining it. Regardless, "Bomb, bomb, bomb, Iran!" is not a viable solution.

If there ever going to be a nuclear war. Israel,a tiny country, will not survive as a country if it took a direct hit. Unlike Iran, a huge country can still survive.

I agree that all countries have a right to defend their sovereignty (Iran). But UN resolutions from the past 50 years have dictated that the purest of wrongs a country can committ that would warrant an armed response is violation of sovereignty (Hitler invading countries, our invading Iraq some might argue..) Iran has without a doubt violated international sovereignty. They sponser Hezbollah which they use as a tool to pawn their influence in hotspots of the middle east- the war between Israel and Hezbollah at the expense of the Lebanese, almost exact proof of their training of shiite militias in Iraq by their "al Quds" force, their capturing of British sailors for no reason but to pester the forces around them, and the constant threats toward Israel whose force and influence in the region has kept as much a balance in such a powder-keg area as possible. So yes i understand people who say well the US is stomping all over the region so Iranians have the right and well Israel has pre-emptively destroyed nuclear sites in Iraq and Syria and whatnot but COME ON. Lets not forget who and what Iran is. They continuously push buttons on the international community and violate sovereignty and violate UN law on several accounts. Iran has done one thing with all its efforts and thats been to hurt us and threaten lives. If you invert the colors on both images you can see poor photoshop skills of the third missle from the left.  Tell-tale signs are the cut and paste ground smoke and the entire sky area around the missle is washed and darkened from too much color blending.

  I want to see pictures of about 400 more of these missiles being fired before we do decide to destroy Iran, that'll be 400 less our soldiers will have to worry about when they get there.

These two photos were taken moments apart which explains the discrepancies with the contrails.  The bottom shot with the MLV that failed to launch has been Photoshopped away with sand overlays as well as the same rock cluster right in front of it (a double) and the dust plume from the far right has been duplicated for the third (and added) missile.  I don't think Iran is stupid, but they are highly provocative.  They view themselves as THE power in the region.  The big problem is what happens when they push the Israelis past acute paranoia and into action.  Stock up on high phosphate fertilizer to keep the plants you will need to grow to survive from absorbing the cesium in the soil.

Iran is not the power force in the region by any stretch of the imagination.  They get the goods from other countries and have nothing to offer except oil.  It seems that you are only reading the back of the cereal box and you are not up to date on who's who in the Middle East.  America has a base in Turkey, Italy and Germany and other local countries where they can look over the shoulder of anyone who makes any sudden moves.

I would like to know why the USA didn't see the missiles from the satellite that they watched everything else IRAN and IRAQ were preparing for, it's not like they popped up in 10 minutes.  Is either photo real?

Look at 1,000s of plane crashes or explosions...there are ALWAYS pieces laying around. I am referrring to the pentagon ...NO PLANE was there...it was a missile...the building never collapsed until 20 minutes after...ALSO---along with footage from the highest secured building in the USA....NOT one camera shows a plane or a carry-on piece of luggage, you can't take a crap in that building without a high resolution camera watching you.

There are a few things to point out. First off, the picture itself most likely was not edited by an Iranian official. There's no plausible reason to do so, unless they were trying to dig a deeper hole. Second, there are numerous things in the photo that make it oh-so-obvious that it's been photoshopped.

1) The smoke coming from the base of the missile in question is exactly the same as the smoke coming from the one on the very right.

2) The terrain is altered around the base of the missile's projectory, and whatever it is shooting the missile also seems to disappear, as one can tell by following the edge of the light on the ground, where the carrier should be.

3) The sky around the missile in question is brighter and a slightly different hue than the rest of the sky.

The third point also brings up the point that this was very sloppily done, only further proving this probably wasn't done by anyone of importance, and suggesting the possibility of the editing of the photo on its way to the news, perhaps to make Iran seem like a bigger threat.

You need to reel in that paranoia just a bit, Iran really has no defense against an Isreali attack, and no offense to do anything about it either.

So most people would not think a mountian lion was less dangerious with a couple of claws missing.  Sure a country has a right to do the things to defend themselves.  Many countries have more military might that Iran that are peaceful.  They don't go around making serious threats about wiping entire countries off the map.

I would like to know the truth, just for once. Based on past experiences, the media and government are obviously not capable of giving the truth. Why? War is big business and right now, business is really good. If that's not true, what else could it be? How do I know that this photo isn't wholly fabricated? I don't. Even worse, I don't trust our media enough to rely on the information they provide. The whole photo is doctored.  Check out the size of the missles, each is identical even though they should be smaller as you go back.  Also, why on earth would anyone launch so many missiles so close together if they were really long range?  if one blew up on the pad it would destroy the others as well. Israel had war games one week before, however that wasn't a big deal because they only bombed all their neighboring countries and brings the USA into wars they don’t need to be in. It has nothing to do with who will win because everyone will end up losing in the end. There are no winners in War, just suffering by the innocent people who could care less about politics.

Iran can take a role where it can block American and international interests starting with the straight of Hormouz. they can either block it most probably by blowing up oil carrying tankers. By duing this you have blocked oil supply to the world even to the arab counties. Once again the Bush admin. has altered photos but this time they were batting 1000. Some of you people are insane!First off Saddam Hussein drew first blood in Iraq. He killed ALOT of innocent people. The US war in Iraq has made the world safer, and that is an undeniable fact. Considering that the US military has been saying since the launch that Iran only launched 7 missiles while Iran has been claiming 9, I dont see much weight to your argument on this.

- Seniors having to continue working after reaching the retirement age to have just enough for food, and any extra money they earn if they choose to work more than 20 hours/week, Uncle whatever takes it all (how is that fair?)
- Some seniors live at home ithout heaters or air conditioners because they can’t afford them; that is after having worked all their lives and paid taxes, and some went to all kinds of wars that Uncle whatever started.
- Waiting time at the “Emergency Room” is up to ONE DAY! And some die on the floor while doctors and nurses walk by and see “nothing”.
- Husbands and wives go to work just to buy food and pay taxes and keep Uncle “Whatever” happy; so he can get fatter and fatter and go out and bully the weak, the helpless and the poor with their tax money; and yet deny them and their children health care and education.
- Any move you make is taxed; you buy; you’re taxed. You sell; you’re taxed. You make a phone call; you’re taxed. You win money; you’re taxed. You inherit; you’re taxed –even though taxes on what you’ve inherited had been paid before it got to you-.
- Tell us, what, and how much do get in return?

This isn't about Iran defending themselves from the infidel crusader (US) but rather about them being mad that Israel exists and Israelis are occupying land that they view as theirs.   This is a FAMILY feud!  Ismael against Isaac.  Think about it.

Once they take something from someone else it is therefore and forever theirs!!!  Jerusalem, southern Spain, Southern Italy, etc.  It doesn't matter who had it first or who had it longest.  None of those arguments mean anything.

Our problems with that part of the world goes back to 1800 when Barbary pirates attacked ships trading with mediterranean countries.  Strong arm tactics, extortion, piracy.

They realize that to the extent that the world weans themselves from oil and uses alternative energy, they will be marginalized in the world arena.  So they are building their future bargaining chips (since oil may be less of a chip in the future).

Whereas they cannot grow food in the desert, they will need something to trade for food.  Threats will be their bargaining chip.  They probably know history and the fact that the jews have been kicked out of just about every country on earth and perhaps they are thinking that the world just hates or doesn't care about jews (together with the fact that they are mad about "losing" Jerusalem) and so blustering about wiping jews off the map is a test to see how and if other countries will defend the jews and stand up to them.  Strong arms tactics, etc.

Its about time that Israel realized that it has met its match. Their domination of the middle east is not infinit and eventually will come to an end. The only way they can continue to exist is by communicating with their neighbours because that is the only choice they have. If Israel decides to attack Iran and chose the road to war, it will only speed up Israel's destruction.

There is really no doubt about changes done to the photo.  The video of the missle launch clearly shows 4 launch vehicles.  Also clearly shows 3 of the missiles leaving the launch vehicles.  Who is to say that a flaw wasn't discovered prior to launch.  Making a launch of that weapon a danger to the men on the ground operating it.  The delicate process of firing a weapon like that is very serious, no room for error.  Just food for thought,  you dont fly a plane with a prop blade missing.  Why fire 1 missile that is possibly having problems when you have 3 good ones ready to go.  still doesn't explain the photo however.

As you look at the missile, the second one is still on the truck and IN FRONT of a bunker, but on the top photo, the second missile fired is way back between the first and third missile.

To the one who said he didn't understand the justification of faking an extra missile launch, it's about reputation and fear.  If a launcher is shown and displays an obvious missile launch failure, it could potentially hurt their efforts to appear strong.  Showing a fully working missile system is much more threatening than showing even partial failures.  Doctoring photos is done in all countries.  Against oil?  Show gray clouds around a refinery to make it seem dirty while showing bright blue sky near a windmill.  Against a militia?  Use filters to harshen the image, increase the contrast to make them appear more intimidating.  Little things are done to any picture attempting to create certain emotions, but when there's a major problem with a picture a major doctoring job is done.

Japan bombed Pearl Harbor with conventional weapons and they did not invade and occupy.  This by the way was the only time another country bombed USA soil.  Roosevelt responded by trying to wipe Japan off the map and in case you didn't know we still occupy their land to this very day.  Just like we occupy Germany, South Korea, Afghanistan, Phillipines and Iraq.  By the way we have military bases in other countries as well.  If Isreal attacks Iran they deserve to have their butts kicked back to their little part of the globe.  

Ok back to Iran.  The last time I checked Iran fought with Iraq from 1980 through 1988 and that's been the extent of their military operations.  How many wars and invasions has the USA been involved in since the eighties?  Shall we count?  I guess we missed Vietnam by ten years so we can't count them or Korea.  By the way, what did Vietnam or Korea do to us?  Did they ever bomb anything on our soil?  I was glad they beat us back to the USA.  Ok, back to the eighties.

I don't believe that all the people speaking of diplomacy are liberals that want to hold hands and make things better. Diplomacy should be the our first option and war should be our last. I know you might be thinking, "well, what if we don't get them before they get us?" We can take a pre-emptive stance as long as we want. We can go to war with every country that we believe poses a threat. Fortunately, not everybody feels that way; otherwise, we would all be dead. All most of us know of the mideast is what we see or are told by the media. Pardon me for pointing out that those countries have citizens that are just trying to live their lives. This liberal vs. conservative bickering is juvenile and unproductive. War is sometimes necessary, there's no debating that. On the other hand, we should be 100% sure that it's the only solution. I'm sure diplomacy isn't as "wimpy" as some make it out to be. I'm also sure that war isn't as "heroic" as some make it out to be. There's a fine line between bravery and stupidity or strength and weakness;it takes a brave person to look his enemy in the eye and say "let's work this out" and it takes a coward to raise his gun to anyone that might pose a threat. A leader that really cares for the people won't carelessly jump to conclusions, but will have the strength to go to war if needed. This leader wouldn't be kissing the enemies' butts and holding the enemies' hands - this leader would  assert the fact that war is a reality but also a last resort.  

It is also possible that the upper photo showing all 4 in the air may have been taken a very short time after the lower photo.  The missile still in its launcher in the lower photo could be a missile with a faster engine that when launched is shown caught up with the others.  If there was a third photo showing it ahead of the other three, then it would be understandable and nothing would have been doctored.  Oh well.

Let me explain: All four major countries aligned are all nuclear powered countries. When we hit Iran; and we will very soon, China will cut off our technology. You see, they don’t need our weak dollar and weak economy anymore; they are friends with big oil now. The oil countries are fast becoming the most wealthy and prominent countries in the world. Once our technology (mainly supplied by China) is gone, we are in the dark. When we go to war with Iran, it WILL move to our soil.

It does not matter about these pictures or how far along they are now in their arms race. How far have they come in just the past 2 years and where are they looking to get? They want global chaos and the leaders of this country and our allies are blind to that fact.

Look at the background of the 3rd missle in the top photo, not the missle itself. It is noticeably lighter than the surrounding sky because it was copied from the 2nd missle which was at a higher altitude with a brighter sky. Obvious fake.

I see several differences in the two photos.  The lower one has either been cropped or compressed.  The foreground of it is lighter than the top one, and the trail of the second rocket from the left is not the same in both photos.  Where is the white car in the top photo?  Hidden by the dust cloud?  Also there are some dark dust clouds or piles of dirt just above the fence in the upper photo that don't show up in the top one.  I'm thinking they were two separate photos, was there more than one test-firing?

I have been very entertained reading all the comments.  I have a couple of thoughts...I continue to see people saying "Why can't Iraq have Nukes if other countries have them?" Maybe we should give everyone in the US a gun including felons, etc.  What kind of amateur idiotic thought process is this?  And why is everything Bush's fault?

The reality is Israel is well-equipped thanks to the US to defend itself against any threat Iran has to offer.  If anyone saw the President of Iran speak when he was in the US, they would know he was a complete idiot, and a very dangerous, I think possibly insane man.  

Some of the thought processes here are truly saddening as to the decline in American intelligence.  Clearly people who have served in the military are not represented here.  They have actually lived what is going on in the middle east and in Afghanistan, not what is portrayed in the media.  

Take the rose colored glasses off folks - Iran is a clear danger - but they have no real power.  If they choose to do something foolish, they will be suffer terribly.

The sad thing is the Iranian people are largely against what this crazy man is doing and will suffer and do so today because of it.

I think the scenario is likely to play out as follows.  Some in the news media will keep trying to promote propaganda against Iran--making them out to be the agressors, when they are rightly taking steps to protect themselves.  Israel will probably soon attack Iran, knowing that if Iran retaliates, then the USA will be forced to come to Israel's aide.  Iran will be obliterated--and possibly even be occupied.  This is an evil plan, but is a very likely scenario.  The US and Israel are being bullies on this issue.  Iran has every right to pursue nuclear weapons, just as Israel and the USA did.  To say otherwise is hypocritical.  Israel and the USA should work to create even better defensive and offensive deterrant weapons systems, but they should not try to bully the rest of the world into submission.  The USA should support Israel if Israel is attacked unjustly, but not if Israel is the first to make such bullying attacks.  I come from Dixie, and we hate bullies here.  The USA are being big bullies right now, and they need to stop!  We should work on being better brothers to the world, and stop trying to bully people into submission.  People should stop using the bible as evidence that we should always back Israel in everything.  Sometimes Israel is in the wrong when they bully others by attacking them first.

If the west abandons the Jews and there is a holocaust in Israel, the Christians will be next. look at at the lower pic and the location of the 4th missile that didn't launch.. then look at the location the fourth missile is in the top pic. You can see that its out of the line up in the lower pic. Thats sad that they have to do something like that I think I'ld hide it if that was the case

I believe the photo is untouched. Rockets fired from idenitical launchers at similar angles with exhaust reflecting off the same soil type result in almost identical exhaust plumes.

I declare shenanigans on both pictures. I see in the "original" missiles fired at different times of the day. The Truck was there to imply mobility. The burm was elongated. There were things added to break up flaws. This is one missile site firing at least two different times of day. The one one the left and the one on the right might be the same one just taken a frame later(but I doubt even that) The "Fake" was probably in hopes that we would miss all the other flaws. They knew we'd catch that one, but thought we'd fall into smug complacency on the rest of the pic.

Just because you can shoot a missile doesn't mean it can hit a target. That's why nukes are so desireable, you only have to get within miles.

That's why the U.S. is so successful. Our military can hit a dime in someone's pocket with a missile. Therefore nukes aren't necessary for us to devastate Iran or anyone else.

I am not certain why they would want to alter the photos.  However, I could be wrong, but if you look even closer all of the missiles appear to be altered (except one).  Focus on the "fire trail".  That is a clear indication of an altered photo.  Why?

The photo on the bottom looks very suspect.  The tail flames look a little suspicious.  There's not enough trail smoke and the flame has a spot in it.  It comes down to this...would you rather get hit by 3 missiles or 4?  I choose zero!!

I just want to say that the response to this subject really shows everyones concerns wouldnt you say? Im sure someone out there see's what coming here. It looks to me the fourth  missile could have been fired just seconds (or mili-seconds) after the three others. If you look the three have a longer tail in the picture with four missiles than they do in the picture with just the three. And sometimes a missile can take off faster than the others. It doesn't look touched up to me.

Yes. It appears this has been altered. If you look at the top photo, the two missiles on the right have the exact same exhaust wash pattern. (The plume of smoke and dust located at ground level.) Look closely and see how many similarities you can pick out. There are more then one.

3 missiles or 4 missiles, what matters is they fired missiles.  We the U.S. should continue to talk with Iran and not press the issue about their Nuclear program, for nuclear weapons.  Besides North Korea fired several missiles and we the U.S. did nothing but talk them before and after they fired their missiles.  It seems we are barking at the people we know we can push around.  Iran is ready to push back and our government is failing to see that.

Not only has the additional missle been added alongwith ground smoke billows copied from the right side missle, but the two photos are not even the same. The altered photo is obviously a second photo taken a split second after the first (video frame?) as the missles are slightly higher and the smoke patterns are not quite the same.

Going to war with every nation that doesnt agree with us isnt going to change the fact that if someone wants to hurt us, in one way or another, they can. First off, the left wing loonies and those that feel Iran is not a threat and that we are just the bully of the world.  You all should be charged with High Treason and as a result, forced to live in Iran where I am sure they will welcome you with arms wide open, after you are dead of course.

Now the real ignorant people on here that think Iran has a snowball's chance in hell to stand and fight against us or Israel on it's own for that matter are as dumb as they come.  For example, ShelliTX has almost got to be muslim to write such funny fairtales like she did on this blog or on some really good drugs.  Let it be known that if I lived in any other country that threatened Israel and the freedom and peace they are so willing to fight for (even if that country had a military with the strength of the US) there would be no way I could sleep at night.  Unlike the US, Israel has military strength and The Good Lord knows they are not worried about what you or I think if they decide to use it to it's fullest.  If they do and when they do it will make any Shock and Awe attack the US has used look like something from a child's book.  Not that we can't out perform their military it is that the politicians in the US get in the way of our military doing it's job.

On that thought, if the politicians in the US would just shut up and sit down and let our military fight a war then this so called conflict would be over by now.  If the military actually commanded this conflict and didn't have to answer for the steps it takes to end this war barring any harm to innocent women and children the world might not be a happier place, but I know our soldiers would be home where they belong, the US would be safer, the dollar would be much stronger, and gas prices which are being controlled right now by our enemies would be much lower because they would know that the left wing loonies that benifit from their antics wouldn't be able to keep them safe.  A military of free men and women are not going to "War" for the hell of it. George, you are an idiot.  Israel has the military capability to completely wipe out the entire middle east.  During their last major conflict with Hezbolah they utilized about 5% of their military capacity.  All of these innocent Palastenian children some of you keep speaking of is a load of crap.  The Israelia army will purposely not retaliate against cowardly attacks because of the possibility of injuring women and children.  I agree U.S. leadership has made some poor decisions throughout our history but we are still the greatest country this world has ever known.  If Iran continues to play with fire they are eventually going to get burned.  They are a relatively weak third world country who talks a lot of junk with very little substance to back it up. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is an evil man who has his country in a very poor economic state.  If he is actually stupid or crazy enough to do anything brash then he will be dealt with accordingly.

First off, we all should be worried.  Whether 1 or all of them worked isn't the point.  The fact that they seem to want to saber rattle doesn't help the world.  We instead will pay at the pump for this.  The problem is that these missles are almost as dangerous as if they were used, since it only puts the gulf in a bad situation.

The U.S. I am afraid is in a bind.  If we attack Iran, you know that unless Iran used chem/bio/nuclear weapons what few friends in the region would harshly oppose the use of a nuke because of potential fallout from the weapon.  In addition Iran knows that a few well placed artillery, short range rockets or suicide attacks on the Saudi oil fields will all but wreck the economies of most of the world, us especially.

Reporters and analysts say we could tighten sanctions hurting their fragile economy.  Problem is, Iran could do that by disrupting the flow of oil.  So whose ecomony is fragile?

If we are going to attack, it might be helpful to have at least 1 carrier in the gulf.  The only carrier, according to the NBC analyst has left the gulf and is now supporting Afghan operations.

When we attack, we need to know more than with a "I think" with we are so positive if they fail I will turn myself over to Iranian officials.  If we can hit almost all of their missile sites we could perhaps take away that threat.  We seem pretty good at finding at least, active artillery sites that we might be able to take out that threat.  If the long range weapons are neutralized then perhaps losses both for our soldiers/sailors and the economy of the world could be minimal.

But here is the problem, all the Shia in Iraq I am sure won't be waving our flag after an attack.  Instead the Mahdi army/militia/thugs/terrorists we let loose on everybody not a Shia, which means the U.S., U.K., and even fellow Iraqi soldiers who won't defect or flee their post to support fellow shia.  Saudi officials have already discovered Iran sympathizers operating in their country not to mention Al. Qaeda.  It doesn't take much to damage or destroy any of the fields in Saudi Arabia.

For the one who critize Obama, it sure appears saber rattling isn't working and the U.N. and the Security Council is unwilling to sign onto a possible attack, maybe trying to try diplomacy at least one time with a hard court press could resolve it before we attack.  Trust me I am a former Marine and would love to see how quickly we could destroy much of Iran's military and Rev. Guards, so I am not a code pink type.   But we have seen the saber rattling is failing all over the world as the U.N. has shown it would rather just live with the problems than take action.  Look in Africa with Mugabe, he could care less what anyone threatens, North Korea refused under sanctions till they got promises, and the list goes on.  So Iran knows that at the moment they can try to negotiate from a position of strength by showing possible weapons they may or may not have or that they do or don't work.  

Remember that one of the complaints about our decision to attack Iraq was that most countries wanted to see us instead try to let sanctions and diplomacy try to solve it.  Instead we decided to go against the wishes of many of the countries of the world and then labeled those who did agree as being a "coalition of the willing", nice slap in the face to those who wanted us to try and exhaust all possible options before war.  So Obama isn't looking to welcome Iran to move to the United States and join in some hippy revivial about peace not bombs, instead he wants to see that if we can show the world that we exhausted ALL methods from both us and the world, then I would be willing to bet that we will find ourselves supported more than just Isreal.  We could find many of the same countries who fought the first gulf war will be there to fully support us whether by troops, equipment, fuel, bases or economic subsidy to reimburse the nations who are spending munitions on Iran so the countries leave them self bankrupt.

No matter what however, we should be even more concerned about this test.  Fake or not, we must NEVER blow off a weapon test as faked.  If we don't say only 3 were real and 1 wasn't, we then can be prepared to deal with the 4 weapons and find that only 3 work is best way to fight a successful campaign against Iranian weapons.

We also need to be aware that many in the Islamic/Muslim world won't exactly hug the nearest U.S. citizen or soldier.  So we need to be ready to handle possible revenge all around the globe against us and those who support us.

Trust me, push come to shove, I would be all for buying a parking spot at the new Desert Inn Resort in what they used to call Iran once we are done with them.

Thanks for posting the article on the yellowcake being removed from Iraq.  I found it refreshing to read something positive coming out of this mess.  I would like to point out, however, the article clearly notes we knew about this particular stockpile even before we forced Saddam out of Kuwait:  "Israeli warplanes bombed a reactor project at the site in 1981.  Later, U.N. inspectors documented and safeguarded the yellowcake, which had been stored in aging drums and containers since before the 1991 Gulf War."  The article further states "there was no evidence of any yellowcake dating from after 1991..."

I'm sorry, but I recall our President implying (rather emphatically insisting, actually) Saddam had WMD that was an immediate danger to our national security.  While I will concede it probably wasn't a good idea to let the yellowcake stay in Iraq after it was sealed up, I don't think the everyday, honest American that bought into the hype thought W. was talking about sealed drums of material that by itself apparently is not even potent enough to make a "dirty bomb".

I have no doubt that Saddam was a cruel, egotistical loon that caused much suffering for his own people while he enjoyed a good life in his palaces.  But the fact of the matter is, George W. misled us on Iraq.  As a result, many good Americans have lost their lives, as a country we have lost credibility in the world and the people of Iraq have suffered through an invasion, an occupation and a civil war of sorts.  And now we cannot leave and we cannot stay.  Is the surge working?  Honestly, I don't know.  Will the Iraqi people be better off in the end?  Only time will tell.

I admit got to the point months back I couldn't stand to read the paper or listen to the news about Iraq any more.  I now choose to read just enough to know Iran is launching missiles or there was an earthquake in China.  Is this the "right" thing to do?  I'm sure I will be both applauded and demonized for my choice.  Does it matter?  Not really.

After reading the responses I see here, I start to remember why feel so cynical about US politics and the news.  Everything is sensationalized and the right is right and the left is wrong or vice versa depending on the subject and the pundit.

In reality, we should focus on facts and the realization that solutions lie in the middle.  I won't claim to know what other religions teach (and I mean religions as in faith, not fanaticism) but as a Christian, my Bible teaches moderation in all things.  That means a little tolerance, a little diplomacy and a little empathy for our fellow man.  Does that mean I am against war?  No, not if it is justified.

As a super-power we still have great influence in the world, though our reputation is tarnished.  We must use that influence responsibly.  Our lives, our families' lives depend on it.  

Every fiber of my being tells me we did the right thing in Afghanistan.  And every fiber of my being tells me we had no business invading Iraq.

We must approach Iran with caution.  And a little prayer for wisdom for who ever is elected as our next president wouldn't hurt either.

As for the photos, I created what I think is at least as good a fake in about 30 minutes--and I'm certainly not a PS expert.  Having said that, the idea the two photos above are indeed time lapse shots cannot be ruled out entirely.  To prove it to yourself, copy them to PS as separate images.  Make one about 50% opaque and then overlay it on the other.  Then stretch it and squeeze it and see if you can make them match.  I couldn't, but I didn't spend an excessive amount of time trying.

(No, I am not implying the top photo could be legitimate--you would have to be blind not to see it has been doctored.  Yes, I believe these are time lapse photos--I simply make the statement for those that want to believe otherwise.  And yes, I believe the bottom photo could have been altered as well, but by a much more skilled person.)

Yes, and the ignorance of some Americans astounds me. Israel, in spite of any faults it may have, is a nation fighting to maintain their right to exist. They're surrounded on all sides by people that hate them. The President of Iran has openly stated that he desires the complete annihilation of Israel. Not only are they actively working on a nuclear program, be it truely for the simple purpose of providing electricity or to make nuclear weapons, and suddenly decided to hold missile tests. If you can't put 2 and 2 together and get 4 then you're as ignorant as your comment suggests. Sure, they defend these actions by stating they are holding these missile tests in preparation for any offensive actions taken against their nation and perhaps that is true but the fact remains that they have historically given very few if any reasons to allow us to beleive that their nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only. I myself am not above denying a person of redemption and in spite of my own distrust and indifference toward the American government, I perfectly understand where they're coming from. Israel is holding their own missile tests in the event that Iran should do something so foolish as to launch an offensive on Israel. Personally, if someone were to step into my home, threaten my life and attempt to deprive me of the God given right to exist, I'd point a gun to their head and tell them that if they think they have what it takes to deny me of that right then by all means fire away. Diplomacy only goes so far, every now and then you have to flex a little muscle and remind people why this is the most powerful nation on the damn Earth.

Israel became a state in 1948.  Harry Truman immediately recognized it as such.  While Roosevelt got the process started after a letter from Albert Einstein telling of the Germans working on a "megabomb", Harry Truman was the president that gave the order for the atomic bomb to be dropped.
Just out of curiousity, why would I be afraid?  I have lived on or near some of the biggest military bases in the world.  Always on the flightline.  The richest men in the world can't go where I have been.  I have stood over my father's shoulder and watched in silence as he brought in various aircraft.  He fought in two wars and was gone more than he was home so that you could share your opinions.

If you don't like the way things are then take the steps to change them.  Turn off your television and get involved in your government.  Go back to school.  America is a good place to live.  Make it a great place by improving your world.  Register and vote.  If that doesn't work, pack your stuff and go elsewhere.  No-one is holding you in this country by force.

We Americans can so easily and effectively spin blame and accountability off of ourselves.  It's never our fault.  I mean, it's never your fault (sarcasm).  American politicians were born in America, raised by American families, went to American schools, went to American universities and thus were elected into American positions of power by Americans, you, me, us.  They're the best that we have, the best that you and I could do.  It's not just their fault that our global image is spat upon.  They're our officials that we gave the power to and they've turned around and made us look like liars, hypocrites and mongers.  Why? FACT: Iran has not preemptively and unprovoked attacked another country for more than 500 years.  

The U.S. on the other hand has preemptively and unprovoked attacked 24 countries AFTER world war II!

Iran has no troops in any other country or outside of its integral territories and waters.  

The U.S. is occupying Iraq and  Afghanistan, and has troops and military bases in NUMEROUS countries in that region and around the world!

The Middle East, Caucasus and Central Asia are all Iran's backyard - Iran has a right to be concerned about what happens there.  The U.S. has absolutely no business there!

A lot of misinformation written here, which just proves that a lot of Americans do not study what is said on the news, or perhaps your news misinforms you to this extent.  

First of all, there were not a total of three missiles fired - there were a total of EIGHT missiles fired, exluding the ninth which some claim was not successfully fired. (Big deal if one of them did not fire in time - Let's not forget all the military blunders that the U.S. military are guilty of!)

Secondly, this is not the first time that Iran has fired missiles.  Iran has fired many more missiles than this during other military drills.

Thirdly:  Iran has a massive arsenal of deadly missiles.  In addition to the mass production of Iranian made missiles, Iran has thousands of the horrific Russian sunburst missiles.  These missiles are extremely accurate and can hit painted "x" that measures 1 meter in diameter.  Sunburst missiles are not only extremely accurate but they're also extremely fatal as one missile would suffice to totally destroy a big war ship.

FACT: The U.S. is a paper tiger. It has a vast military machine with super modern high-tech weapons. And yet it has NEVER attacked anything else than small and weak countries. In the event of an attack on Iran, Iran would without doubt turn the Persian Gulf and neighboring countries into a huge graveyard for the 200,000 U.S. troops that are stationed there (That's half of the U.S. military!)

Iran could easily shut down the straight of Hormuz, trapping all the American forces in the Persian Gulf, and disabling them from recieving help from outside of the Persian Gulf.  

Iran could also target the oil of neighboring countries if things really turn out nasty.  This would lead to a collapse of the world economy which would be disastrous!

Iran has tens of thousands of missiles directed at Israel, and in the case of an Israeli attack Tel Aviv would burn!

Iran manufactures the "hoot" torpedo. The fastest torpedo in the world, only manufactured by Russia and Iran. This torpedo is also difficult to detect with radar.

Iran also manufactures mini-submarines that evade radar detection. With the help of these mini-submarines and torpedos, Iran can devastate the U.S. fleet in the Persian Gulf.

The U.S., it's western imperialist allies (U.K., France, Germany) and Israel do absolutely not want a powerful Iran that sits in the Middle of the richest energy sources of the world! With a powerful Iran, how could these countries rob that region of its resources?  It would be difficult. That's why Iran must go. But they won't be able to get away with their malicious plans.  An attack on Iran would certainly cause incredible destruction and millions of Iranians could loose their lives.  But the price the attackers would pay would be so great that they would regret they attacked Iran quite soon after the initial attack.  And in the long run Iran will come out as the victor, and then Iran will indeed be determined to acquire a huge nuclear arsenal, and nobody will be able to prevent her from doing so.  The U.S. will be totally devastated, and the U.S. will loose its super power status. Without the U.S. pumping billions of U.S. tax dollars in to Israel, Israel will no longer be able to maintain its costly military expenses.  A new world order will arrive sooner than anticipated.

Very off subject here, but on 9/11, in between all the radio commentary on my favorite Hip Hop station they played the songs from the radio, but the artists had changed all the words to patriotic meanings.  Same beats and everything, but I always wondered how in the world they could have recorded, produced, and put them on the radio so darn fast, as in the same day.  I know they didn't just have these patriotic songs sitting around.  Any ideas?  It has been bugging me for a very long time.

(so really we should have been in afganistan in the 80s, more prominent that is). especially when the threat is communism or dictatorship. the reason? well, for those of you who missed history, you have no idea how close the US (and the allies) came to losing WWII. its true people. had hitler not gone crazy and done just a couple things differently, one half of the US could be speaking japanese and the other half german. all of europe had fallen except russia (which germans could have defeated easily if they hadnt divided their forces to also take on great britian). as far as the US, we wouldnt enter the war. if england had fallen before pearl harbor, then the US would have been looking at japan on the west coast attacking, germany on the east (with englands navy). we wouldnt have lasted long. because another little tid bit that you missed from history class was that the US had no military, to speak of that is. soldiers entering the war only had ONE bullet that could be practice fired. in training, we had no tanks to train with, training fields used cardboard cutouts of tanks and trucks. we had nothing people, nothing. this is the major reason we now strive to be first and foremost militarily. we vowed to never be caught with our pants down again (at least without a military), and to not allow agressive invasions (provided that the country being invaded ASKS for help). they have to ask, but thats all they have to do. now, one more little lesson for you guys, remember, there is a difference between agressive invader and civil war. civil war is a whole other situation, can be very tricky, so often times its best to stay out, which we do a lot of times.
