Is this the super model of dogs, or what? BUT... better to see it frolicking in a field than being raced to death on a track.

This is a really cool picture... Makes you wonder if there's a rabbit that's just out of the frame of the picture.. lol..
Is this really a greyhound? It looks just like my fox terrier, except for the long tail. It is a beautiful, happy picture. I love the bright spring colors.
Super-pooch flies to the rescue. and unlike Underdog, she doesn't need a cape to do it!
How can anyone be sad when there's that much yellow? It is the most cheerful color of all, even more than red(my fav). I've always loved the trees in the fall with the leaves entirely yellow. Here, in Kentucky, all of the fields are first, purple, then yellow and then they are disc'd or drilled for planting. The yellow is always spectacular. BTW, I look ghastly in yellow, like I'm ill with malaria or some horrible malady. Cue the choir from the fire photo.....
I forgot to share that I have a dog like this (not the same breed) who is obsessive about fetching the ball (or whatever nub of a ball is left from his gnawing). If you'll throw it a hundred times he'll bring it back a hundred times. He'll set it just inside the car in case you feel like a little toss when you are trying to leave for work, or wherever you are going and think nothing of the slime all over your hand from his mouth (yuck!) I've seen him climb trees and flail through pampas grass when the kids weren't thinking clearly. He realllllly wants that ball. What makes him like this dog is that 'bounding like a deer' leap over things with his tongue wagging and his ears perked up and his tail flying wildly behind. I love that.
Kibbles 'n Bits, Kibbles 'n Bits, I'm gonna get me some Kibbles 'n Bits
She roll back down to the warm soft ground, laughing she don't know why.
Bet she's a Mighty Dog.
Dog & Butterfly...
"Lucky Dog, Lucky Dog, I'm a Lucky Dog."
The photo: large aperture, fast shutter, perfectly framed, colors are gorgeous. Small depth of field adds to the apparent speed of the dog in flight. Well done. The emotion: pure joy. Love it. NEO: I can almost hear Nancy singing right now. All we need is a couple butterflies in this pic, eh?
ERRR... this dog is just way too happy looking... ermmm... its sorta making me jealous...! is that wrong? Anywho... it's good to see a happy looking picture once in a while with all the things going on, on this planet, lets me know there's hope out there....!!!
Dogs are my favorite people.
Ray - lol Near perfect pic. Framing, focus, timing; it's all there. Mickey - good call on the Super-pooch! It really does look like she's flying.
This photo popped up and I immediately started calculating the speed of the dog vs. the distance to my truck vs. how long it will take me to find my dog spray. I guess this is a hazard of my occupation.
Greyhounds are such great dogs. I always thought they were ugly until I worked at a greyhound track loading the dogs into the gate and catching them at the end of the race. They are an incredibly sweet, energetic breed. More people should look into adopting them when they retire from racing. I would have a couple of them at least if I lived someplace where I had room for them to run.
It just doesn't get any better than this, LOL!!
This picture makes me feel young and happy! I know...crazy...but true! Love it!
Nice to see a dog being a dog. A happy active life loving dog at that.
suzanne... yellow is my fav color... love this picture! And that dog is a Whippet (see second sentence), smaller than a Greyhound. Do they race the Whippets too? Margaret... right on, hon! I hate it that the dogs are destroyed after they've reached their racing peak! Unless, that is, people adopt them. A friend has two she adopted from the tracks in Mobile, AL. The only thing, you have to have them fenced in or they will just run away... and run... and run! LOL... she keeps hers inside! LunchBox... good one! But for me, cats are my favorite people... though dogs do have more personality! I love the attitude of cats, and would love to mimic it! LOL... you know, stick the nose up in the air, ignore, hiss at those I don't like... etc...
this dog is running from the Dog Whisperer~ that guy is good.. anyone seen that show? a dog trainer walks in, looks at a dog, says pppsssstt, and the troubled dog is cured- no more jumping on guests, barking, or pulling at the leash- amazing what people will buy into to be on tv
Bridget - you bring up a good point that deserves extra emphasis. You're right they are a great breed, but I would only encourage adoption to those who are energetic themselves and MUST have room to run and run often. It would be akin to torture for a dog like this to not get the exercise they need. I think the smiling young lady in the pic brings that home quite effectively. I'm with you, Lunch. JustSayin - ever get bitten?
Kajun - young is a relative term. As my 94 year old grandfather says, I'm 25 every morning when I wake up; but when I get out of bed reality sets in. BYT, I know where Dothan, AL is. I have a lot of relatives (mostly farmers) who live about 15 miles north of there. Boiled peanuts country....mmm, mmm, good
AAAAWWWW!!! How cute is that? Happy puppy, running in a field of flowers, tongue hanging out. I want to run with him! Only my tongue won't be hagging out.
The tongue hanging out the side of his mouth is the best part! Plus, he's smiling. :-) Lunchbox - right on!
What a great capture! "Hey Scoob!!!! Wanna a Scooby-snack?" "OH Boy, oh boy, oh boy!!! Ranks, Raggy)
This is the photo that sits on the fireplace for fifty years, and sparks endless retellings.
Day One: Took Sparky for a walk. It was such a nice day, I unhooked his leash to let him run. That was a mistake. He ran straight ahead, quickly became a dot on the horizon and disappeared. I called and searched for him until after dark. Day Two: I took a day off from work to search for Sparky. Went to the meadow and woods. He appeared briefly and ran to me overjoyed. However, he only buzzed by me at 60 miles an hour and disappeared again. Day Three: Made up fliers with Sparky's picture, posted them on telephone poles and storefronts. At midnight, Sparky showed up at the door whimpering. He had burrs in his coat, thorns in his legs. It looked like a bobcat had been chewing on his ear. Day Four: Sparky slept in my bed all day. He woke up briefly to eat a bowl of dog food and then went in and passed out on the couch. He'll probably be okay.
"I believe I can fly!"
What a great, joyful picture! I wish I could be this flying dog for just one run through the dandelions. Run, run, run as fast as your feet can fly!
Hmmm... my post didn't get... uh, posted! I think the computer froze just as I hit submit... I've always wanted a Whippet, which are smaller than Greyhounds. Both are beautiful dogs. A friend of mine adopted two Gray... or is it Greyhounds, but says you have to make sure you're outside with them when you let them out... redundant?... as they will just start running and don't know when to stop! Pretty funny! I love this picture as yellow is my favorite color, and this field of yellow makes me happy, too!
a great shot---love the action and use of DOF----- Looks like my front acre---
I... smell... bacon!!!! Bacon Bacon Bacon, numa numa numa, gimmie gimmie... BACON!!!!
OhioBob: Yes I have. Let's just say that sometimes my math aint so good! Here's a question for Margaret: Does one place an apostrophe in the word "aint"?
OhioBod & JustSayin, I was about to get bit by a ferocious dog one time, and without thinking, I threw my best friend in front of me. She only got nipped though. I felt bad afterward, but it was funny.
Love it, MaryDallasishTX... LOL!
Day five. After Sparky slept all day in Ed's bed---he was full of energy and raring to go when his master came home from work. He greeted Ed at the door with his leash in his mouth. It was such a nice day. (same scene) Same mistake. Will Ed ever learn? Day Six. After a night of drinking (msnbc partying) and worry----Ed takes another day from work to search for the missing Sparky. He was lucky he had left over flyers---that did save him some expense. (After all, the beer run for this group is expensive and the government is gouging us with gas prices thus raising the cost of grain causing a case of beer to go higher--starving us all----you know the drill)---If only Ed had asked the advice of the resident witches--the widget, bayaga and esp the advice of the local Bull and our resident teacher mick-mass----we would have explained the effects of spring on the animal world.....saving him from the worry and the time off from work. Stay tune for more in the life of Ed and Sparky. Will Ed continue to make the same mistake. Has he turned his car in for a bike? Does Sparky leave Ed crying in his beer? How many Sparky's and Sparkette's are now Littered in this world? Will we ever know for sure? Will the cost of Gas ever come down----thus saving the world----only the lunchbox will know.
Stryder: Wow. I never looked at it that way, but he's absolutely right. Just yesterday I was 28! Today I'm all of 44 because I tried to act like I was 28! Ha...I'll keep trying. I've been told that the reason people get old is because they forget to act young. I think that I may need to go outside and play. :)
I think if I ran with my tongue hanging out I would trip and bite it off at the sound of the sirens on the looney bus they have sent to take me away.
JustSayin/ShelliTX - I had a paper route when I was a kid and...collection day, territorial German Shepard, knock on the screen door... Fortunately, having to penetrate the screen first prevented his muzzle from fully reaching and getting a really good chunk of my leg. But he did get a piece. I didn't have the paper route much longer after that. Funny thing though, I never really blamed the dog and I've always loved dogs ever since. The only time I really worry is when my kids are around other people's dogs.
Hey!!! Was that Sparky I saw down in the woods with the cute little fox? I mean... he ran so fast... it was a blurr... *** checking the flyer *** Holy Fast Track... it was!!!
Anybody heard from American Patriot lately?
Dog Day Afternoon...
ED & SL: I hope you're not meaning "me" sparky. Newbies: pay attn: 1st: welcome! Now , that said, please know that I am not a male, nor am I a dog. I am actually quite cute! Ed and SL are taliking about a different Sparky, I hope anyways. Besides,
When I go to a customer's house, I have learned the hard way to put my foot against the screen door. More than once a dog has jumped against the door to bark at me and popped it open. I'm not really sure who was more suprized, me or the dog. ShelliTX: I found it a common practice in Texas for people to chain their pit-bull to the propane tank. I do not envy you!
omg! Sparky is chasing the pony around the outdoor ring! Sparky!! Spaarrkyyy! Oh, dear, now the pony is loose...
Ed...Is Sparky neutered?
Just saying---in the South you do---in the dictionary you do--ain't contraction of am not, are not, is not----ain't got a clue what the Queen does----I ain't sure that that the Queen would use such a world!
Chow Baby---ED---Hollywood called. They want to make a movie out of the Sparky and Ed saga ----could not found dog for part so Ducky has dressed up one of her ducks----we can get Jordan to play you (if he has the long black socks) ----The other bit players will be played by bloggers----should we get Elpaso to write the screen play----he does not work cheap----Let me know----I will be standing on the corner of Vine and Hollywood---in the dark glasses, and fake leopard skin---Chow Baby----bayaga
Wunderbar! Wunderbar! Wunderbar!
bayaga: Well then, I ain't ever going to use ain't again. I have it on good authority that Elpaso doesn't touch screen plays.
OOOO OOOO I wanna be the fox! Ya know, the one down in my woods who's chasing Sparky... must be love! Awwww...... And no, sparkyModesto... not you! Funny! earl, judging from the way he's chasing that fox, I don't think he is!!! Love is grand! justsaying... ain't ain't in the dictionary??? *** giggle ***
JustSayin, funny you should mention. That's only the one's who don't pay tank rent and don't want you to go repo the tank. I think the guys are more scared of the chiwawas. (I know that's not how you spell it, but I gave up.) Try opening the lid to a rattlesnake or rat nest.
hello mother, hello father, fleas, ticks, mosquitoes, they really bother....'
earl Sparky is not neutered. He still has the spring in his step. However, I have a spayed cat who walks around the house all the time, looking everywhere, like he lost something.
Every dog has his day.... (but the nights belong to us pussycats!)
Well darn---that means Ed will have to do the screen play---we had already decided on a 30-70 split ---with me getting the 70----I was going to write the music score and play the sax---and that is s-A-x------now he will probably nag me for more money and then ducky will want more----and I don't think Jordan has long black socks----will this drama ever get filmed!!!! bayaga
This picture just begs for all these hillarious comments. My little wild dog that I adopted must be the daughter of Sparky and that little red fox. The first time I saw her I thought she was a fox. Only problem is, she has too much chiwawa (I like your way of spelling it Shelli) blood in her for that. Maybe she was the fox's mother. I just gave her two little rottweiler marked puppies away. At 8 weeks they were almost as big as her. Lunchbox, MickeyMass???? can you explain??????? She is now named Gypsy Rose and is always smiling and runs fast. Can she be in the movie too? And Spike (chiuhuahua) and Silver (Siberian Husky)???
Oh, look at the right front claw on that pup's foot? Looks like my neighbor's Great Dane's toes.
Can I be this dog??? Please, pretty please, huh, huh huh?
lonewolf - your mother dog is a chihuahua (or part)? do you know what the puppies' father is? Size is partly genetically determined and partly environmentally determined. Your little wild dog may be small because she didn't get enough nutrients as a pup. Her pups, being well cared for, will no doubt be bigger. But if dad was a big dog,,, then the pups will likely be bigger than mom.
It's not the race that kills the greyhound, it's over breeding. What happens to the puppies that don't make the grade-who just don't run fast enough? They are slaughted and they become large animal and yes - yes some trainers feed the slaughted puppies to the racers.
This photo is so fun. It just expresses the simple need of a dog to run and the dog will be happy.
Is it a greyhound or a whippet? They are two distinctly different breeds. As for the posters who think greyhounds need to maintain a strenous exercise schedule after they leave the track-- WRONG! They aren't called "45 mph couch potatoes" for nuthin'! http://www.floridagreyhounds.com/adopt.htm
GreyhoundOwner is absolutley correct guys - these dogs don't need to run all day. They love to lay around and relax just like every other dog. They are the most affectionate and loving animals you will ever meet. I know this for a fact because I have three retired racers myself.
Looking at the detail and the sheer speed of the airborne pooch, it's hard to tell if he's about to make a left or if he's just straightening out of a turn. The best detail of all though is that it doesn't really matter. This picture makes me smile.
Ken - I have been meaning to tell you -Welcome back. Stay this time.
Thanks, C. I'm in and out according to my work shift. When I'm on my week off I rarely bother with the computer.
Okay, I know people probably won't come back this far... just in case you do: A greyhound runs in a dandelion meadow in southern Germany on May 2. Whippets - like the one depicted - can grow up to 50 centimetres and reach top speeds of 65 kilometres per hour. See the words between the --'s... it says: like the one depicted... meaning, this dog is a Whippet! Sheesh... do I have to 'splain to everyone? LOL!
Reminds me of the rabid skinless dogs in Resident Evil.
Oh to be this happy, joyful, careless, and free. He looks like he's having the time of his life, and I love the bright background the flowers provide for him.
It is either a Whippet OR a Greyhound. They are two DIFFERENT breeds. Do your research, people..
