No chance of an errant Brush Fire being started here!!!!

I know this is a casual blog, but it would be nice if the “professional” editors from MSNBC would at least proof-read their comments. I did not graduate from high school, but even I can spot obvious grammar errors. Drew, “It took me a minute to figure out what was going on when I first saw this photo, I had to read the caption before I really grasped what was going on here, then i laughed out loud.” – is it just me or is this a run-on sentence? I also appreciate the lower case “i”.
Have to give them credit on that they were well prepared to go out and about for the day! Never know when food and a nice fire can come in handy huh?
What a way to grill huh?
The river burst its banks and flooded the town. A car pulled up to the park and shouted to the students, "Students, we can squeeze you in. Hop in!" The male student said, "No, you go. Save someone else, the view from the table is good. God will save me!" The water level kept rising some people in an inflatable boat rowed to the table and shouted to the students, "Students! Hop in! You're going to drown!" The female student replied, "No, go save someone else. The grill is almost hot for the food I have to cook. God will save me!" The water increased further... Our poor students drowned and went to heaven. When they met God, they asked him, "We've been your humble servants all our lives. We helped the poor and did good deeds. Why didn't you save us?" And God replied, "Whatever do you mean? I sent you a car, and you said no; I sent you a boat, and you refused; and when I sent you a guy with a canoe, you still said no."
If you can't make it to your classes, then you do the next best thing.
I'm pretty sure they aren't complaining about their cancelled classes. This picture SCREAMS college fun! I miss those days...
Staged?? Where did the charcoal come from?? And we all know that flames like these from a charcoal fire only last about 1 minute or so.
I agree with the comment about the bad grammar. If you plan on becomming an "editor" try editing yourself first.
Looks fun!
what a hoot! i love some the 'laissez-fair' attitude of this kind of people!
This pic is class. And the pirate flag is an added touch!!
What a bunch of illiterate pukes you are. The caption, while cumbersome, is in correct grammar.
My 5 yr old son was looking at these photos and asked why we couldnt camp out on water too lol Hmm interesting concept!
I like the way the great Americans in Iowa handle a flood. If this were in an area of hyphenated Americans then they would be looting.
Live life to the fullest; no matter what!
Go back and get the buns
Wow, MD, it seems your lack of a high school diploma has left you with a compulsive and annoying need to proof read everyone elses comments. are ewe trying to compensate for something!
Why the skull and cross bones flag?
Where's Ray Nagan when you need him.
Thats what you call inovation. We use to row in the back yard when the water flooded it. Thanks for showing some ways of cooping with things you just can not control:-) Thanks
What an imagination, Clos! Pretty funny!
Good capture.
SOUTH PARK does exist and is for real!
Staged? Al, some people have this skill called cognitive thinking where when they see people piling charcoal on a grill they realize that lighter fluid is probably going to follow, hence the flames. I would think for a 10 count next time you decide to call someone a liar.
The editor's comment has what's known as "sentence splicing" -- instead of correct puncutation, he used a bunch of commas. It is a form of run-on sentence, and is INCORRECT grammatically. I teach English and scored perfect on my SAT, so I'm not an "ignorant puke."
You've never heard of South Park, Colorado, which is where the cartoon South Park is based off of?
whatever happened to the netiquette rule of NOT correcting someones grammer i dont care if they are editors and i dont care if you are an english teacher that scored perfect on SATs this blog is not about grammer its about THE PHOTO!!!
"Did you find the cooler"? "...damnit..."
the kid better be careful - like they say, "you can't have your kayak and heat it too..."
This photo speaks volumes of the character strength of the Iowa people. This I know to be true as I have experienced it 3 times in my bicycle rides across Iowa.
When life hands you lemons, make lemonaide.
<Stands up to applaud PHILHB> I nominate you for the "Caption This" award for this photo!!!
an interesting photo essay
epic. haha.
Apparently "EBWhite-blahblahblah" was too busy thinking up a "great" insult like "illiterate pukes" to notice that the earlier comments were referring to Drew's quote, NOT the caption under the photo. But hey, isn't it more fun to immediately jump to conclusions than to check the facts before we open our mouths?! Details, details... Mr. Blahblahblah. I love this photo! I don't care if it was staged or not. I don't think it was, because it looks like something student would do, just for fun. Either way...very creative and it makes me smile. It brings me back to my carefree college days.
How did the girl stay dry?
Arrgh! Ahoy Matey...What Ale and Meat did ye bring?!
Only in America would someone jump on the editors junk about something in an online blog. Get a life. It's about the picture, not about his comments and how they're not written correctly. It was totally mean spirited. I'm sure it's easy for you to do in an online forum where nobody really knows who you are and you can feel big about yourself. I bet you even told your friends "Oh my God... today I TOTALLY called out this editor on MSNBC because of his grammar... I was like, 'I have a degree in English so there!' BURN!" Get a life you dolt. I like the picture.
i Totally Agreee w/MD
To those of you fascinated by Drew's writing skills: Do you insist that all of your customers use correct grammar at the drive through when you ask them if they want fries with that? Do you find yourself frequently editing the dollar menu marquis? His job is cooler than yours.
Hey, that's my brother! Here I am in NM just avoiding studying by looking at some photo's and up pops my brother. Believe me, it's not staged. BrooksIIIIde!
Hmmmmmmm,,,,fresh fish fillets
Green Peacer's protesting a mini oil well drilling site.
Where is the EPA when you need them?
I look back on my high school years mostly as a negative experience, but at least I had the energy and enthusiasm for activities like this.
after hurricane ivan my neighbour spent all day and a pile of tea-lite candles and produced a delicious potatoe soup. this photo brings back all the feelings
AAHHHHHhhhhh! The unfettered cavalier manner life is in YOUTH!!! Carry on kids!
I don't know about you guys, but I was always told to stay away from flooded areas. Due to diseases and snakes and such. And don't forget the possibility of drowning. Leave it to high school students to ignore such warnings...
I love that these people just did what needed to be done! They didn't whine and cry and demand that someone else take care of them, they got off their bums and did something constructive regarding their situation instead of making others responsible for them. Those are the kind of resourceful and self sufficient people I am proud to share a country with.
I was looking through these for the pictures and admittedly noticed some serious animosity in the postings. I have never commented in a blog before, but I'm somewhat suprised nobody seems at all offended by Jeff's comment about hyphenated Americans. Come on man, it's 2007. Anyhow, this pictures makes it look almost fun to have all your belongings submerged.
Liz, It was seen but chosen to be ignored because there is no power in words if people ignore what is said.
Grillers in the mist!
Hey, when you have reservations...
You jerk, "you forgot the weenies, Now what are we gonna put on the grill"
This picture has so much in it. That surprises me someone is going crazy about the Grammar errors. Albert Einstein was dislexic used to writte up side down when no one was around. Énglish isn't my first language and on top of everything Í'm dislexic. Been around teacher and critics makes me nervous, but I just liked the picture so much that I wanted to be part of it somehow.
Never posted before but just had to jump in on this one. It's sad that the first comment on this blog was not about the picture but the editor's grammer. Also, to the perfect SAT scoring English teacher - before you enlighten us with your college education and higher knowledge - you better run spell check and make sure your post is perfect before you correct another's use of grammer. I believe it is spelled "punctuation" and not "puncutation". Gee, I didn't even score perfect on an SAT to know that.
Will you let the kids grill in the flood, because there are worse things they could be doing...This is a cool shot that truly does make some lemonade when life throws you lemons. Keep up the grammar mistakes too because you, like I, am only human. I reawy scwewed that up...have fun while you are young because it only happens once for all of us, with or without knowing how to spell right or good enough...I am surprised they don't have more food with them to eat
This is a good example of making the best out of a bad situation.
WOW~ talk about making something good from a bad situation. These folks clearly know the meaning of "positive." I need these people on my staff! Kudo's!
i hope it keeps them warm enough and also....i hope they can swim good enough....a flood can be very strong. i hope they know that
Fish and Barbque in the same park how innovative,
Bet they made lemonaide from the lemons too!
and, like it should be, the woman is doing the cooking.
"Uhhh....I'll take a combo #3 with cheese and a diet coke." "Do you wanna supersize that, sir?" "Yeah, sure, go ahead." "Your total comes to $5.38, sir. Paddle to the second window, please."
I'm from Iowa and yes, we know that floods can be very dangerous. We may be called hicks around the world, but we aren't stupid!
camping on the water anyone??¿¿
FEMA! FEMA! FEMA! Where are you?
Looks a tad suspicious when their pants and shoes are dry, and the only visible transport is a single person kayak. Maybe the photographer took them there in his boat.
