Funny?  I suppose...

I wrote a whole response before I looked again at the image.

I can't help but think this is a teenager and his buddy is still on the sidewalk (at the top of the image) watching to see if he can get across - like it was a bet.  

Maybe there is some humor behind the picture...??

"I didn't fall... uh, I just couldn't let the fish get away!"

Maybe he was diving for his lost shoe.

Many people think that a 12" to 24" flash flood is nothing to worry about. This could be further from the truth especially if a flash flood can travel as much as 30mph on a smooth surface, such as a street, and knock people off their feet. These can be become deadly especially if you fall head first and pass out.

Once again, why is it that people are so sadistic to think that someone falling is funny?

Could be this was the other's on the dry part's way of saying, "If he makes it across, I'll give it a tr... oops, he didn't!  Okay, that's it... not for me!"

Poor fella!  I hope he was not tangled in the bike's wheels and didn't have a good scare before extracting himself from the bike, and swallowing tons of water!  It does look comical though.  I've seen dumber things than this, of people and their cars on flooded roads!  

Of course there is humor, as long as he was not injured.

Is is sadism to find humor in a picture?  People laugh when another falls, and then sometimes they go to help, but you always laugh.  A lot of people laugh at themselves when they fall!  Obviously this man knew the risk of trying to bicycle through deep water, and he paid a very minor consequence.  If you can't find humor in this, you're too down on life.  Cheer up a bit, the world could use it.

I think it's funny just because I've been there before.  After living a couple of years in the poorest parts of Northern Argentina, slipping on muddy streets and landing in the ditch was no stranger to me.

And to Fer: Typical welfare-minded attitude.  Give free hand-outs to the poor so they can learn to rely on the charity of others instead of working on their own.  Besides, these people aren't as poor as you think. If so, this man wouldn't even own a bicycle.

im sorry fer but collecting money for those poor people? what about the poor people here? not bad enough that we already put our noses where they dont belong..we need to be more focused on what bad things are happening in our country and fixing our problems...

Sounds like a lot of you need to lighten up.  I'm sure that this picture was not captured to make fun of whoever this person is on the bike.  I'm sure was to capture the magnitude of the situation and how the locals are having to deal with it.  But you can't honestly sit there and tell me that none of you have never snickered or giggled when you saw someone stumble or fall or something to that effect.  I'm sure the majority of you are among the millions that watch "Bloopers" and "America's Funniest Videos".

Ouch! Face plant into dirty, probably disease-ridden, water. A good photo because it makes me feel sorry for the poor cyclist. Fer, you are free to send all the money you want to anyone you want...stop this 'we' business. I give lots to the charities of my choice. Giving should be done freely, not by mandate.

Provided this guy didn't get hurt:  This is hilarious!!  Laughing at the mishaps of others are some of the most humorous occurances.  I've fallen back in my chair in a crowded room and people laughed.  I did too.  We've all been there.  Lighten up people because if we can't laugh at the curves that life can throw us then maybe we should all keep our helmets on and march single file.  Laugh! Trust me, you'll feel a little better afterwards.

You know... this world is going to hell in a hand basket. When someone thinks a person falling off his/her bike in the water face first is funny... all I gotta say is, you need to check yourself. What if that was you and everyone else thought it was funny... my word... wake up people! the misfourtune of others is never funny! If someone was born retarded, that isn't funny. If someone gets hurt, that isn't funny... where did you learn your humor? A good joke is funny. and so many other things are funny. But things that happen at someone elses expence is never funny. Learn to lighten up the right way!

Wow people, lighten up!!  Everybody stumbles once in awhile, it looks like there were people around to help if help was needed, I would have been laughing my butt off had it been me crawling out of the water!  Why?  Because I was stupid enough to take a chance trying to cross in the first place!  Half of the fun of taking on a challenge like this one in the picture is knowing you might end up looking like an ass! But you do it anyway!  You people who can't laugh were probably the same kids on the playground who cried everytime someone looked at you cross-eyed!

i guess i'm rather disappointed of the comments here. Instead of commenting on the composition of the picture (lighting, shutter speed, etc.), people rather make their comments on basis of political and moral significance. For those who think that this man is in danger of crossing a fast, or flash flood, just look at the base of the light post, NO SPLASHES. That means either it is really a slow moving water ran offs, or it is a standing water...GEE
