I agree with the editor’s comments. What makes this picture good is the fact that you can feel their expressions without seeing their eyes. The slumping posture and lowered heads tell enough of the story to understand what these men are feeling. Also the fact that it is shot though a window emphasizes their isolation

It's amazing how subtle and such little things can make a normal picture so amazing. It's nice to see a color photo that explodes the sense of emotion within it.
War is hell!!!
What drew my attention to this picture right away was the blue of the computer screen. Such a contrast against the rest of the picture! About the men... if they are truly guilty of this murder, they should hang their heads in shame!
Eye for an eye is not real enough...until you are faced with it yourself. If you want to know how a person’s world falls apart at the seams, take a look at these men. Their life is starting to crumble as the other gets off the phone with destiny.
Por Favor.....no crying when convicted of murder.
This photo is haunting, but even more so after I googled the murders to find out more... what I found was that the 4 policemen were killed in their maximum security cells before they could stand trial. What a world we live in.
Whats sad is that these four officers were shot to death shortly after this photo while in their prison cells, by "unknown assailants". Maybe they weren't guilty, eh?
What I find extremelly good is their expresions it seens like they already new that they were dead men. All this corrupted police oficers were killed next day, by their own corrupted piers ( mafiosos in Guatemala) I think we will never know who killed the salvadorean congressman. by the way all of them are corrupted it's like a war of maphias.
3 crooked politicians and 4 killer policemen off the streets! I say thats a good day!
Body Language that says it all with just a bubble head - no words or faces -impending doom.
Wow - powerful photo and to know they died shortly afterwards makes it even that much more powerful
Sometimes I wonder if there is some truth to the saying "what goes around, comes around." Nothing good comes from corruption, it always catches up.
Can a photo capture the essence of third-world idoligy? Apparently so. When one knows the whole story, or our perception of it, one can't help but guess their thoughts, and I'm sure they were all aware that they had seen their loved ones for the last time.
This photo does speak volumes...After learning of the fate of these most likey "puppets" of someone higher up the ladder, makes you wonder if they already knew their own fate...
My first thought when I glanced at this picture... The man on the phone and the man covering his eyes both thinking, "How did it come to THIS?" My second thought - four more families to deal with heartache and loss. When will it end...
Kudos to John Brecher. He limited his comments to what was visible, the information provided in the caption, and stated things in a manner that made it clear it was HIS perspective of the picture (unlike a media director in an earlier picture). I not only appreciated Mr Brecher's perspective, I agree. Regardless of the nature of the phone call, the placement of the Por Favor sign and the idylic scene on the computer can only be deemed ironic.
why are you in full armor while in handcuff, makeing calls to your mom?
Personally you shouldn't shoot at things you wern't supossed to.
these police men were pawns in a much larger drug trafficing war largely controlled by Central American Politicians---all trying to smuggle toxic chemicals to the youth of America who have the largest disposable income in the world. Greg's comment is right on the money. Trust me when I tell you that Tony Saca (pres. of El Salvador) is just a puppet and that we should all be concerned about the newly elected President of Nicaragua and all of the funds he receives from Iran and Venezuela
Does anyone else see the silhouette of a man's face at the top, above and slightly left of 'por favor'? Were these guys behind a plate of glass or something?
Blah, blah, blah... you can look at this picture as artsy fartsy as you want. I see a bunch of police that are mad that they've been detained. And the "Por Favor" sign is attached to a bookshelf which probably is asking the staff to please store books or documents of some sort on that shelf. Absolutely nothing special about this picture to me.
Very sad
Does anyone else see a scene from "Spaceballs" in this?
Give the guys a break. there're ordering donuts! You know the cream filled ones.
I do, bgrog. I do.
The creepy part is the ghosts of the victims are in the picture as well.
I bet they wish they we on that Microsoft wallpaper island right now. Everyone loves the microsoft island!
its sad how you can tell that they know they're about to go to jail...um-um-um. i see those ghosts too, lol
Helmets don't help much in a head-butting contest.
Not ghosts in the picture. This photo was probably taken from outside of a window. It is the resflection of people standing on this side of that window.
Paranormal... Thank you Mr. Obvious.
The butler did it. H D
If it weren't for the caption I would guess by the phone, the computer screen, and the looks of total despair, that they were on hold with Microsoft tech support.
Thanks for clearing that up, PNN.
NOOoooooooo ......... I said PEPPERONI!!
Does anyone else see the faces in the background?
I was in El Salvador when that happened
