what a wonderful idea!
Pretty neat. It's about time though they started doing this.
nice! add touching to beautiful fashion
nice
this image strengthens my belief that no matter the sadness and imperfections we see in the world today there is still hope for some fun and refreshing ideas to make the world a better place.
It's about time.
This shows that just because somwone is confined physically to a device that is necessary for their mobility , they can still show their inward beauty as well as outwardly. My wife drives areound in a wheelchair just like this one and has for 50 yrs. Tony
I think that it is about time that we actually see some fashion on our women of today that doesn't have to be on perfect bodies. Now only if the industry will be bold enough to use others like her, many should follow and we will know that you don't have to be perfect in order to be on the runway!
Bravo!!! great idea... I hope that images such as this appear more frequently in the media.
Thank you for the wonderful photograph of the beautiful young woman who shows no sign of "suffering" (suffers from a spinal cord injury) or "confinement" (confined to a wheelchair). The words we choose to describe a person and the disability he/she experiences need not artificially limit them or define them (“she is a quad”). I applaud media professionals who have educated themselves about using "people first" language and discuses a person’s disability only if it is relevant to their news story.
Now lets see it go up stairs
I applaud her beauty and her courage. This should make all with working legs bow in her presence.
She is hot
I REALLY LOVE THIS...JUST GOES TO SHOW ANYONE CAN MODEL! I APPLAUD HER!!
What a dog!
Its about time. Now lets start errasing all the stigmas that this world has put on people, all the intalerances, all the prejudices, all the haves and haves not, and start living like we should, love and care for all not just the few.
This comment is directed to StupidMonkey, real funny, everybody knows it is designed to only go down the stairs.
I love the composition of the photo and the contrast of the woman in the wheel chair and those sitting in the chairs watching.
awesome.
Its about time that 'beauty' wasnt so stereotyped.. people need to see photos like this more often!
That reminds me of a news story where I live where a guy beat his girlfriend so bad that he actually severed her spinal cord.
i agree with chrissy a lot. nice dress too.
Now really, Those supermodels are just getting way too lazy!
now, how about that! I never would have thought
Ok calm down, its good that they have pics like this yes but that girl has serious man face.
Beautiful...and look at the expressions in the crowd!
This shows that President Bush is the greatest President this country has ever had. At least if you read the captions on other pictures that show bad things and blame him for those. So I guess when you see good things like this you must come to that conclusion. Right?
timmmmaayyyyy!!!!
5 bucks she can walk
If there is Any way one can feel better about themselves and not harm anyone else, be empowered in her(their) wonderfulness...Thar Is inspirational! Bless her beauty within which shines out to the world.
If she can be a model why can't i!?
beauty should not be judged and everyone in the picture knows it
LOOK WHAT I CAN DO !!!!!!!!!
Don Made me giggle out loud. Thanks buddy.
Did anyone read the caption this is a show for wheel chairs. I would bet just about anything that model can walk. What this picture doesn't show is when the battery of that thing dies and she stand up out of it and pushes it offstage.
This is the only picture, so far, that has made me smile this morning. ºÜº
As with the previous model photo, the one with the cracked mirror, I would have to preform the Crocodile Dundee grope test before I believed Jenny Smith was a real woman.
This is a great photo. A statement that says any one; no matter what one can and can't do, no matter what one looks like;tall, short, skinny, fat, no matter of ones ability or disability to what they can and will do.
This is beautiful! both the model and the idea behind the show
On Myself's comment, "what a dog". You must be a mean, small-minded person to make such a comment. This girl is showing courage and giving hope to others with disabilities. She is also a beautiful person. Who are you to call her a "dog"? Seems to me you seem more like a dog, actually, worse than a dog--most of them are loving and loyal. Keep your nasty comments to yourself, why don't you!!
How pathetic! If you think this is advancing something you are stupid!
I hope they installed brakes....Whooooo
Empowering? Inspirational? Sure Unusual? Definitely. The photo is strange. The composition strains to get the reaction of the audience on one side. How often do you see that in fashion runway photos? The reaction is taken for granted. It would have been cool to see this from a fashion point of view than a photojournalist one. I like the photo for its strangeness: it looks like the woman is modelling the chair, not the outfit. And the comp, really makes her look lonely up there.
go girl go
I love this picture.
Awesome!
Honestly, i think that you're missing the point here. While she may be considerably attractive and brave to do what she is doing, the caption says "makes her way down the runway on a WHEELCHAIR designed by Zang Toi during the "Rolling with Style" gala, a fashion fundraising event". Are we supposed to "wow" the CHAIR or HER?? Perhaps its a mistake on the writer's part. If it IS the chair then this picture is terrible because I only see her upper body (not intending to be insulting at all) and four wheels. Not a good shot of the COMPLETE SUBJECT. May the Lord take care of her.
market anything for a buck.
Am I the only person who sees the ridiculousness of this? A designer wheelchair for the rich is good in what way??
Decent shot. I feel this shot would have been better if the audience had been left out. Jenny is a brave and pretty young lady. To get out there like that in front of people took alot of guts. It's hard enough to go out in public and have people stare, but to actually put herself out there for people to stare at, took alot of guts. My hat off to her. As for the idea of designer wheels? Why not? Who said being disabled means having to have an ugly or clunky piece of equipment? Parents pay hundreds of dollars for a pair of sneakers that their kids wear out or trash in a very short time. How many pairs of shoes does the average teen go through a year? A power chair on the other hand is an investment. Something that will work for a long time and is every bit as important to a persons appearance. Especially in the workplaces where $200 silk ties and Coach bags are not uncommon. As a Disabled Vet with a spinal cord injury, I walk with a cane and it's only a matter of time before I too wind up in a chair. Currently, instead of the cheap cane the VA gave me, I use a sporty hight adjustable hiking stick that I paid a pretty penny for a couple years back. It not only keeps me from falling on my face, but it makes me feel good too. That's the whole point. If you look good, you feel good. Now, I just wonder if they showed any chairs that had a Harley Davidson type look :o)
Kinda stiff or is she nervous?
<I have my serious face on> I would just like to say thank you to the editor for not posting any of my previous attempts at commenting on this picture. They were tasteless, offensive, and degrading to humans as well as Martians.
Now that Ive got my hover round I can do anything!
If they're trying to expose the clothing, this is not a good way of doing it, although I do like the idea is fun and I think it was very brave of the show coordinator to include it. She looks very proud!
I havent walked in 17 years, what a great thing to see.
Oh, congrats Jenny Smith. You prove that no matter who a person is. She can prove that she is talented in Fashion.
