That is an awesome picture! Kudos to the camera man!

The picture looks almost like a drawn one. Great capture! Kosovo is almost forgotten because the media doesn't bring it to our attention anymore. There are so many things happening on this world every minute of the day. But not only crule things happen in Kosovo or Iraq. You just have to look in your city, your own front yard or even in your own families. We make it hard for ourselves and others that we love or appreciate. There are so many veteran's out there that are out of a job. Nobody cares! So many people suffering in your own state. Nobody cares! I think people have a lot of times more to do with themselves, straightening out their own lives that there is just no more time in this short day to think about people that aren't next to you.
Looks like an MC Escher drawing. Very nice!
i would love to have a print of this. anyone know how i could find one?
Ahhhh the Daily commute. Great photo really shows the depth.
this photo is amazing, the layers of Grey are beautiful...
I would hate to see the camera mans car who took this picture. Can't imagine how he could see to drive home. Even with windsheild washer fluid.
I like all the movement, and then the one still bird on the post in the center of it all. The grey foggy birds are like the past, and the black sharp ones are like the future, and the still bird is like this one little moment in time, the present. Very nice!
I agree this is a wonderful capture. I have had a duck drop a wonderful package thing on he windowshield and had a terribile time washing it off.......
Absolutely beautiful! Very Zen.
THIS REMINDS ME OF THE HORROR MOVIE THE BIRDS. I THINK ITS CREEPY!!!!!!!
Black birds are as if a sign of the black fortune of Kosovo coming from the history..... and this shot shows a bird alone in the middle, strong somehow in the fog of the life around....
I love the photo, the depth, contrasting colour shades with the birds fading into the mist. It evokes an eerie atmosphere. Great work!
Becky..I agree! LOL I do think it is a cool photo and Alfred Hitchcock would get a kick out of it.
Absolutely love this picture. I'd also be interested in getting a print of this.
I don't know if anything else could be said on how inspiring this picture is. I would love a print of it also. One that is capable of being blown up about 400%
Fantastic image. You handled the grey tones very nicely and the mood of the shot is good.
I think it could represent the life of a human. The sitting bird is an individual trying to remain calm in the stress of life and the others represent life itself with bills, traffic, children, work, etc... I would also like a copy of this photo (enlarged).
There is an important peice of historical context missining from the commentary, although the photograph is quite beautiful, regardless. The fact that it depicts crows over the fields of Kosovo is very meaningful to those who know the history of the region . A Serbian epic poem describes a pivitol and bloody battle lost to the turks in the 12th century. In the poem, crows descend onto fields where thousands lay dead. The feilds that were red with battle, turned black with despair. "Kosovo polje" is associated with the futility of war and the feeling of pointless, and poignant, loss of life. I think knowing that background adds to the power layered significance of the image.
Seriously, how can we get prints of this?
Wow, awsome picture! I want a print of this..... it would make an awsome poster.... I like the bird in the middle sitting on the pole.....
This picture reminds me of what my mother used to tell me..."Don't be a follower, be a leader!"
What a powerful picture! I am really interested in getting a larger print of this photo.
This pic has that surreal feel, like adream you almost remember.
I think if you contact Reuters they will contact the photographer for reprints. Maybe GettyImages has them...
Wow It Kinda Looks Like A Sceen From The Birds.
As a person previously from Chatham, Ontario (Crow capital of the world), I think this picture is amazing. I would love to get a copy too.
Gotta agree w/ Becky. It gives me the creeps. I hate to see big groups of birds like this. I give kudos to the cameraman. I would have been running far & fast, screaming at the top of my lungs. :)
Who knew beauty could be found in a dump? I checked the Reuters website and you can buy prints:
Wonderful composition. It was an interesting photo to view, it gets your wheels turning and gives the viewer a lot to discuss.
I have to agree with Becky as well - this photo is beautiful, but it totally creeps me out! It's Hitchcock's "The Birds" all over again!
Its like VFD, the village of fowl devotees from "A series of Unfortunate Events."
The contrast of the filght and the one peaceful bird, thats awsome. I feel like like too sometime.
That lone bird on the post is a Merlin (small falcon).Note the structure of the feathers and talons. Its amazing how one noble bird frieghtens the ravens dispite their larger size and numbers. Very symbolic.
This is an awsome picture! My regards to the Photographer. "Becky" beat me to my comment about that Hitchcock movie, The Birds. I don't want to sound like "Simon", but: "MoniqueKCMO" and "didi" !, why did you come to this site ?
My eye was drawn directly to the bird perched quietly and not moving, just watching as all the other birds surround him. It makes me feel like he's thinking, "I'm going to take my time, there's enough junk here to last forever."
I love this picture. If only I could get a print of it.
Sortof reminds me of the Hitchcock Movie "The Birds" if I look at it at an angle. However, its also very freely flowing as well. Imagination of your mind can play an important role here.
I would love a print of this as well! There is just something about it! Is that possible to get ahold of a print?
I had a lung fungus from bird droppings, so I do not enjoy birds at all!
It's simply beautiful and nothing more needs to be said about it.
It reminds me of the loner who stops to take a closer look at what's around him while life and everyone else keep passing by...either that or he was the one to notice the mouse first.
From one Becky to another: You read my mind! Just saw this classic film a week ago, and I'd think this photo was a movie still if not for the caption. Not sure if I'll ever feel the same about a flock of birds again!
Spooky.....yet Beautiful
This is so amazing with the contrasts of the multiple shades of greys in the fog ... great picture ... does make the memory go back to Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds".
I was deployed to Kosovo in 2000. I had the opportunity to visit 'Kosovo Polje'. When I was there my interpreter informed me that 'Kosovo Polje' means 'Field of the Blackbird'. When the major battle of 1389 was over, the blackbirds completely covered the dead left on the field of battle. This picture is amazing and very poignant.
alfred hitchcock would of loved this photo.
Wow, crazy!
Caw! Caw!..........MEOW! says the hungry kitty cat
This comment is for sigstaffordvirginia: why did you come here? I actually appreciate the historical background provided by "didi" It adds more life to the picture.
Very beautiful. If someone does find a way to get prints of this I would love an email. Thanks too for the Serbian story, I had read about it before and was intrigued.
Now thats intense!
That's the scariest picture I have ever seen! Yes I have a bird phobia...
Yes Karen, I think it is an Alfred Hitchcock trailer.
Wow, the memories and past witnessed horrors this picture brings to mind. I served in Kosovo in the late 90's in the area where this photo was taken. To see the birds in flight and on their perches was breathtaking. You can not imagine the numbers of them it is stagering. At times it was hard to hear yourself think. I would like to get a copy of this picture as well if anyone has some imformation. I would like to hang it on a wall as a reminder to me of some of human lows and triumphs that I witnessed in the area. To the photographer...outstanding eye.
NEVERMORE.
It reminds me more of an M.C. Escher print.
this picture screams Alfred Hitchcock. It caused isn't terror. Simply brilliant.
Kill all of them. In case you dont know crows more diseases than you could count, and they all affect humans.
Its Brandon Lee reincarnated.
Nice pic! Very Hitchcockian. Even though they might not all be crows I do think of a line from the movie The Crow which it's said a crow carries the souls of the dead. Movie line or not, with the past unfortunate past horrors in Kosovo the line and photo tends to resonate that much more!
Alfred Hithcock presents....
This is a wonderful pic, has great composition and very nice contrast
Nice picture, the crows in fog make it surreal as though they're giving us an omen of harsher things to come. This picture also reminds me Stephen King's movie -The Dark Half.
