Reuters: "All the weight is in the claws, it would break your arm," said Elaine Jones, education director for the state's Department of Marine Resources.

Maine State Aquarium Manager Aimee Hayden-Roderiques is pictured holding "Rocky", the 27-lb lobster donated by a shrimp dragger to the Aquarium in this handout photo obtained by Reuters February 23, 2012. The lobster, the largest ever recorded caught in Maine, was released into the ocean Thursday.
The 40-inch male crustacean, about the size of a 3-year-old human, was freed in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean.

Rocky reminds me of some Tennis Players I know of that have huge right arms.
The article says, "The 40-inch male crustacean..."
How does one find out the sex I wonder....maybe I don't want to know.
Common $en$e.......... too funny! Looks as though our friend Chester knows his pictures . Although he still may be learning to read!!
Yikes, how did they handle it the first time they caught it? How did they put those rubber bands around its claws without getting hurt??
Very carefully.
Saw them doing that on Dirty Jobs. They have a tool that holds the rubber band open so they can slip it over the claws and release it without getting their hands near the claws.
The men can do it fast. Clip, clip, done, grab next lobster. The grabbing has to be done right too, so they can't reach the hand holding them.
They are very careful. I have seen big lobsters, but that one was huge. Probably would not have tasted very good though, the big ones can be tough and rubbery. An average lobster can take a person's finger off, so I have no doubt this one could take off a man's arm. They have one claw designed for crushing and the other for cutting. The one made for crushing can turn bone into powder.
OMG. damn . I wish we could put a banksters hand in those claws.
Looks like I'll be needing a larger pot, and more boiling water!
Where did they release it?
I have the melted butter, lemon and a boat ready.
Aw, ya beat me to it on the melted butter! In all seriousness though, it's great that they released this behemoth because it's the big mature ones which reproduce the most.
I had a butter idea..
" How did they put those rubber bands around its claws without getting hurt??"
VERRY VERRY CAREFULLY!!
Sorry, I tried not to but just couldn't help it!
Next time... try harder :)
We need a bigger boat!
That is big, I wonder when they started keeping track of the record size lobsters. I read about the settlers catching giant lobsters in the 1600's
The big boys, like this guy, can be tough to eat, no matter how carefully you steam 'em.... I'll take a 2 pounder...:)
Absolutley, it's a cool monsterous lobster, but would taste horrible, way too tough. I've eaten a 3 pounder once and that's it, because really a 2 pounder is way better. I would have like to have seen the guys who caught it, I bet their eyes were as big as this lobster.
Agree. That big guy would be as tough as an old boot. Far better to let him go and make more delicious (with clarified butter) little lobsters.
you are correct sir
Gangster.
Personally I like Caribbean lobster better.
And Yes, this guy would be tough, but my mouth still waters at the thought.
he makes me hungry.
I wanna eat it
WOW! Handsome creature! Glad they returned it home.
It would take longer to melt the "5gal." of butter than boil the damn guy.! Geez/
Very likely this would not be good to eat anyway. If they get that huge, they deserve to live - glad to see it was released.
Check out this link and watch Rocky go home.

I wonder how much that lobster would cost if you ordered it, as is, in a restaurant
My 5 year old is upset that it was released! She says it was supposed to be FOOD...:D
Nice way to respect a life other than your own!
Are you gonna cry to PETA?
Do you defend rats, pigeons, cockroaches?
Seeing as how lobsters are the nautical equivalent of all our nasties on land, I wouldn't be too upset about it.
Man, that's a BIG Lobster!
It didn't get that big because it was a dummy!
Old wise one!
He or she deserves to be set free, it would be too tough to eat!
Are you Tuff Enough?
the biggest lobster ever has never been caught.
Lobsterinsanity!
Giant Enemy Lobster!
glad they released it.. now go make a million more
Rocky was delicious. .....burp
