Occupy Wall Street protesters and union members walk across the Brooklyn Bridge after a rally in Foley Square, Thursday night in New York City.

msnbc.com staff and news service reports:

NEW YORK — Thousands of protesters took to the streets around the U.S., including Los Angeles, Dallas, Portland, Ore., to mark two months since the movement's birth. Dozens of arrests were reported, including at least 31 in Los Angeles.

One of the largest demonstrations was in New York, where at least 1,000 demonstrators tried to clog streets around the stock exchange. Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly said five of the protesters arrested were charged with felony assault and that seven police officers and 10 protesters were injured.

Ever notice how most of the people getting arrested look like degenerates in the first place?

Don't be fooled by the preconception of police brutality... Those people are getting arrested for NOT being positive contributors to the protest.

All I can tell you is that I am lower middle class , I don't begredge anyone for there success , and if I do blame anyone it is this administration and the Gov't in general, current and past , I find it odd to be upset at someone or a company for accepting what the Gov't offers and in some cases demands you accept , I am upset with our Gov't for bailng out banks ( although most has come back ) bailing out GM ( money 4ever lost to appease B.O's buddies ) throwing millions and millions at friends in high places ie Solyndra etc. , my issue is with the overpaid unions and the way they make demands on the gov't , I don't get why the attack by this angry volitile mob on Wall Street ...... These guys definately do not represent me or anyone I know for that matter !!

You contradict your own comment. How can you say you do not support bailouts yet you do not support the anti bailout wallstreet movement? I work at a bank and am in the upper middle class and I get the movement and totally support it! Banks are corrupt. Wallstreet, Insurance companies, Oil companies, etc.. are destroying the world and it is time to stop so our children can have a fighting chance. You need to go back to school and learn the history and role of unions in America. Unions are not the problem, they are the solution to the diminishing middle class, holding corporations accountable and demanding worker's rights. I really dislike your comment if you can not tell!

What's even worse, this argument only faults the government for taking bribes, and not the private sector for giving those bribes, so that they can take what the government will give them. After all, they gave the money to the politician, then sent a lobbyist to tell the politician what special favor they wanted the government to give them. Both sides are at fault. If you cut off the money, you stop the special deals that politicians obviously lack the moral character to refuse to make. And the government is not in charge of the banks, who created this mess, the credit bureau that facilitated it, or the stock market that took advantage of it. Most of the anger is focused on the private sector for a good reason. You make the politicians less corruptible if you clean that up first.

One more thing: based on the current trends, if you're lower middle class now, you will be poor in a decade or so. Remember, someone told you, so don't say you didn't get a statistical warning if it happens.

Take another look at the third picture down at the crowd on the march. That looks to be a pretty good cross section of what America looks like.

You do have one thing right though.... as people have less to lose (home... jobs.... voting rights... Etc.) there is less that will cause them to give pause. You back anyone into a corner, eventually they will come out fighting. Basic human nature.

Well, on their official chat site (allegedly had 1000 people on it), they advocated a violent overthrow of the American gov't. to begin with, and an institution of their 'new world order'. Their idea of free speech was to block me from chat as soon as I disagreed with them. And 20,000 protesters ain't 99% of 312 MILLION Americans, no matter how much you chant it, or how many Hollywood superstars say it. And I worked for a poll company. Of the few people who take those calls, half hang up. I liked the people who took the polls, but they are pretty rare, to tell the truth.

GB.... you may or may not be old enough to remember the anti-war protests in the 1960s. People thought that they were "freaks" as well in the beginning.... The movement grew into millions to where the government finally did take action.

I think you are starting to see the same thing. Like it or not... this is first amendment stuff through and through. Think about our independence from Britain... That was a protest as well. Did the Brits think those in the colonies were "Freaks"? Your hatred for this administration seems to be clouding what I know you learned in American History.

We couldn't have made the break from Britain without the help of Haym Solomon, a Jewish BANKER who gave Washington the money, supplies and rations that he needed to survive the winter at Valley Forge, which is why on the back of the American dollar, the stars above the eagle's head are six pointed stars of David and, if you turn it upside down, it's a Menorah. Also, we left England. We did not start raping women, killing people and smashing business' windows in England. We left peacefully. I am tired of propagandized history by OWS.

That was the modern start of America's wealth being handed over to the wealthy.

Please stop promoting these staged, government funded protests in the media. They're fake and the protestors / actors themselves are B-movie grade at best. The protests are ultimately being used to paint the capitalist system as evil through the exposition of corruption in the corporate world. It's a lie, people. It's one big, fat lie to create distrust of Government and big business. It may be true that corporations don't have our best interest at heart, but that's because this situation has been engineered rather than the result of a natural progression of events. Oh, and while we're at it, please stop manufacturing false Thomas Jefferson quotes in connection with banking institutions and corporations.

The fact that the military hasn't stepped up to the plate and helped police (which was low down) with these riots, which tried to destroy every single small business they came in contact with by smashing their windows and covering them in graffiti (Oakland) and making it so they might go out of business from no customers (New York), makes me think you may be right. Maybe those of us totally opposed to their proposed communist 'new world order' should get together. Because these people are a nightmare. And a gov't. who supports its own overthrow is shortsighted at the best.

Tell that to Abraham Lincoln. This has had the makings of a civil war from the get go (except that they can't win unless we let them). Forgive me, I forgot that you have not investigated what this group says about itself from the inside. Well, OR, you think it's okay to advocate 'violent overthrow of the current government'. But, in case of an attempt of overthrowing the govt. by civil war, I think (just a guess) that not only can they, but the word 'duty' comes to mind. Maybe I should just burn my law degree.

But, since you do not own the news, you cannot block me or stop me from using--guess what?- MY FREEDOM OF SPEECH in my country that I happen to love and do not advocate overthrowing. When you use foul language and tell people to shut up, you help to define everyone associated with your movement even more clearly (if that's possible). You do not own this country and you never will. You do not make anyone else to shut up. Cry about it. Attack an officer, get him to fight back and then cry out 'victim here'! Whatever.

The congress we have now is not serving America, nor her people.

If you are so afraid of this movement to the point to where you think the military needs to aid local law enforcement, maybe you should just burn your law degree because your understanding of our constitution seems to be a bit flawed.

You have to be in denial if you can't accept the fact that the US government is RUN BY CORPORATE AMERICA. Corporations have more rights than individuals do, and they are even considered people, even though I am sure not a single corporation was ever a US citizen, and they do not have a soul. Corporations are buying every single politician to do their bidding and approve laws so that they dont have to pay taxes, can pay workers less and less every day, and soon, we will see enfranchised slavery of the masses, with the consent of the US government.

Steve-56, pull up the website www.cbo.gov (Congressional Budget Office). There is plenty of data through the historical records on tax revenues that will back up the statement that Corporations tax percentage has not stayed equal with the increases in domestic product. In otherwords, they get bigger and pay less.

                  Truejoy,

Apparently, you didn't read my entire post. If you had you wouldn't be accusing me of siding with OWS; I am against them! Furthermore, the words I used were "unfounded speculation" not "opinion". Valiarius was asserting his speculation as fact rather than as his opinion. I challenged him for evidence because I have seen this claim being made before without any evidence being presented.

I have no doubt that some Congressional leaders are on the take from time to time, but to say that they all are doesn't make sense. There are two opposing parties in Congress; are they all accepting bribes for the same reason while only pretending to battle each other? Do the Democrats put on a show of liberalism while secretly supporting big corporations right alongside of the Republicans who have agreed to look like the bad guys? Ridiculous!

And some of our people in Congress are so rich before they ever get elected, you can't pay them enough to push favored legislation through, unless the corporations are willing to shell out millions per Senator or Reprensentative.

Whew.... another hotsy totsy Occupy item from the kids at photoblog. Thank goodness. Here you went almost a whole day without hunkering down around this subject hand fondling the rich substance it keeps excreting from it's body. I was beginning to think you would have to go without feeding on this warm substance but now I know you have eaten your fill. Keep up the feeding, children.

The Occupy Wall Street Demonstrators are true American heroes.

They are braving cold weather, tension, stress, police brutality - all to make their future and future of all Americans better.

May God bless these young women and men.

May their resolve remain strong so that they can bring positive change to this country!

What rock do you people (if that's what you actually are) live under?

Being anti-corporation does not make you a socialist or a communist; it makes you a humanist.

Steve is right. Its about being humanists. This movement is not about destroying capitalism, its about modifying it, so people can live. There is no reason, whatsoever, for the top 1% to continue to pay themselves more and more each year, while workers' compensation is sliding backwards.

                          r3ality,

Capitalism: an economic system in which investment in and ownership of the means of production, distribution, and exchange of wealth is made and maintained chiefly by private individuals or corporations, especially as contrasted to cooperatively or state-owned means of wealth.

Socialism: Compare capitalism an economic theory or system in which the means of production, distribution, and exchange are owned by the community collectively, usually through the state. It is characterized by production for use rather than profit, by equality of individual wealth, by the absence of competitive economic activity, and, usually, by government determination of investment, prices, and production levels.

If the government (aka, the "community) is determining the means of production and distribution (corporate lobbying) than I would be solely against it. However, OWS wants the market out of politics. Sounds like OWS is more for capitalism than socialism.

THAT's why this NATIONAL 99% protest.

I asked Jesus if he could help fix the economy and bring the the left and right together, and He said that it required all of His power to make Tim Tebow a success on the football field. "I mean, look at the guy's technique. How do you think he continues to win?", added Jesus.

This is while they are making record profits and getting tax breaks. Corporations need to keep American jobs here, and quit being so greedy! The CEO is stepping down and becoming Chairman of the board, his package 160 million +. I support the OWS we are part of the 99%

I support this movement for a number of reasons. First, I support it because I am a steward of our Constitution and have the duty to best live up to the ideals that our ancestors brought to our nation. As such, I must speak when I see injustice, I must act when I see our nation faltering. One such example is this: there are jobs here for Americans, but we have failed to invested ourselves into educating our children well enough to fill them. Another example- our companies may legally spend as much money as they wish on political actions, and are surely influencing how our government takes in and spends resources. We prop up a failed agricultural model which is endangering our very ability to eat for this reason. We allow that not all are equal in the eyes of the powers that be for this reason. In fact, we citizens hardly factor into the running of our own government anymore save to give a guise of legitimacy.

Secondly, I support this movement because we, the people, are the bones of this nation. Without all of us, there is no United States. This is our country to run as we see fit and it is time we had some frank and truthful conversations about what our government ought to be doing in our names. Only through lively, forceful, thorough discussions will we be able to know one another's hopes, fears, and dreams about what we are creating. It is clear to every one of us that we must re-organize our government to better serve our interests, both at home and abroad. Our present structure of a two-party ruling elite has not been working well and we must get to the bottom of why.

Third, I support this movement because it represents a nascent possibility, like those of the Abolitionists and the Suffragettes, to correct a great wrong that we Americans are perpetuating in the face of better methods. Our economic order is the engine driving our world to the brink of ecological disaster. Corporate personhood has corrupted our liberty and has created a world where money can create policy. Our nation requires that every true patriot lay aside any prejudice, pride, any notion of condescention, and come to discuss our future as a Republic.

I support this movement because it is demanding that we have these conversations and in doing so is a lamp bringing us home.
