Holy mackerel! Kansas man catches 466-pound halibut in Alaska

Highliner Lodge & Charters Inc. via AP

Kent Carmichael of Ulysses, Kan. poses with a giant halibut he caught on Tuesday, June 28, in the Gulf of Alaska, about 90 minutes offshore from Pelican in Southeast Alaska. A conversion table in the Alaska Tide Book was used to determine the weight of the 94-inch fish to be an estimated 466 pounds.

That is one big fish. A decent size salmon puts up a heck of a fight, so can you imagine trying to haul this thing in? I'm not sure if there are different species of halibut or not, but this one comes close to matching a world-record halibut caught in Iceland.
